get motor checked out for compression and go for it if it checks out should be a great ride
Sounds good. Be sure and check anything our gang suggests Championman can help with advice with older rigs since he has a 1989.
Go for it - and be the envy of everyone who passed it up!!!

Mine is a 1987 184 SCR with a 2003 Mercury 150, runs just under 60 with a 23p Trophy. The boat is solid, very stable and comfortable ride. My only wish would be a deck extension. Check it for stress cracking around the splash-well. If the transom and floors are solid you won't be disappointed. As already suggested, have a mechanic look the motor over carefully.

If there are any screws in the transom down low (like old transducer or speedo pickup) go ahead and take it out. Hopefully no water will run out. If it does find another boat. I donated an 87 that has a water logged transom. Its a lot easier to check it out before you buy it and most sellers are agreeable to letting you check these types of things.
Peace and good luck,
