Hi,
I purchased this boat new in 2004 and it's run pretty well over the years. I usually replace the spark plugs every year. Unfortunately, I am told that the plugs have to be indexed when installed and when you follow the recommended procedure, if your purchase the 6 plugs need, you will be lucky to find one that aligns properly. I've heard several differing opinions on what I should do.
- Purchase additional crush washers and in theory, if you place the additional washer on top of the existing one, it should allow you to rotate the plug for better alignment with injectors.
- I just spoke to a knowledgeable person who races cars that require indexing and he said, if it isn't a racing boat or car that requires high-performance, then it isn't very critical.
- Someone also suggested buying 12-16 plugs so that you are more likely to find the 6 you need that will align properly. Needless to say, that is not only not practical, marine dealers aren't usually excited about you returning a number of spark plugs.
This has driven me crazy over the years and I was wondering if someone who has the technical knowledge about indexing plugs could give me some insight on how best to approach this yearly ordeal.
I thank you in advance.
Bob
