    adding a jack plate

My tin boat does not have a jack plate and the manufacturer doesn't recommend adding one because it voids the warranty, I'm the 3rd owner and the warranty is void anyway. Now, my question is the sticker on my transom says its rated for motors up to 470lbs. My 150 Vmax HPDI weighs in at 468# according to NADA when I looked up its value. What issues would I have if I added a 6 or 8" manual JP since that would put me over 470#?

Why do you think you need one? Not being a smartalek, but on a lot of iron hulls it's a waste of time and money.

I think it would help with porpoising at mid range speeds. I could be wrong though. I'm not really looking for top end, its plenty fast already.

Have you played with any different props to help porpoising? What brand and model of hull and motor? What prop ya running?

No I haven't played with it. It's a polar kraft hp180 pro with a 150 HPDI and a yamaha 23m prop. It runs fine, just wondering what the JP would do for me or if it was worth it since the motor was already pushing the limit.

A plate probably would help with that bounce but so would a Yamaha T series prop. It' a bigger diameter and has more bite.I'd try one in the same pitch that you have now.

Maybe you should just have your prop repaired and add a little tip cup to it to keep it from porpoising. They don't want the jackplate on it be cause it puts too much stress on the transom.

I've thought about sending it to Mark Croxton to have it reworked.

    That should help it.
