    Crack in transom...

I found a crack in the transom of my 1990 Champion 184 SCV. It is along the metal rail at the top of the transom near the outboard. The passenger side metal cap comes loose repeatedly, and many of the screws on the back part of the metal piece are stripped (the threads, not the head).

Damage control....this is an old boat and I'm trying to prolong its life until I'm done with college. What should I do? The crack comes out of the back part about 3/8". The only stress cracks on the boat are at the joint with the big metal piece.

Is there a way to prevent further damage, or should I not be concerned. Right now I'm starting to panic!

    Thanks

    Mike

I don't really know much that can help. I just thought I'd give you something to read until the experts get on.

What? What did you give him to read that we cannot see?

+1 on the pix but chances the transom isn't bad just the splash well seal and the top cap joint.

This is the case on my 201 cracked all the way across and lets water in when i sit down. Not a transomn problem just the thin fiberglass that forms the splash well. my metal strip was loose like that as well.

Agreed on all points ... pix are a must, probably no big deal. But we need to see all the same ...

Just that line. I was kind of anxious to see what everyone was going to say about his problem. I was hoping for the best, and it sounds like he may be ok.
