    Boat Speed

What exactly are we looking at on speed and rpm's and water pressure on a 2008 188 with a 200hp yamaha.

This past weekend i was getting around 53 to 5400 rpm's and running about 62 to 63 on the GPS and the wate pressure gauge was reading around 25.

Also, i had my jackplate moved up, i believe 2" when i brought it in for the first 10hr tune up.

    Please let me know

What prop are you running? RPM and speed sounds low to me. That should be a mid to high 60's boat loaded. Not low to mid 60's.

prop is a 25m (factory prop)

The load is one person and medium tackle with a half of tank.

Somethings not right with your setup.

I've got a 2000 191 with Merc 200EFI. Ran 69.5 (gps) with me, all my gear and a half tank of gas this past weekend. Rpms in the 5800-5900 range with a 25p Tempest.

That Yamaha should get up and move!!

    Re: Boat Speed (FEARTHETURTLE210)

Unless they've changed the T props from the early ones I've tried, the Vmax ran better on mine. And, the tempest (worked 26")runs better than the Vmax I've ran with the exception of one worked Vmax(25"), and it has since become a door stop due to slinging an ear. All this is on a 3.1 however. I was getting about 69-70 gps on a good day, mostly 67-68 otherwise @ about 59-6000 R, 1.81 gears.

    Re: Boat Speed (HaulinBass)

    What kind of jackplate?

Also, is it just me but does the motor kind of bounces alittle up and down, is this because of the weight.

My trim is only getting in between the three quarter and 1/2 mark on the gauge.

And my water pressure reading is around 25

A lot higher now then it was before i had a tune up and adjustments.

Trim is right. If it was higher, your prop would be out of water...

    Water pressure is very good.

    Bouncing motor?

If you are asking about mine, I've got a 6" jackplate and the prop shaft is 3.5" below the pad.

10" R&R design manual JP. Trim extenders, that I don't need now with my current prop. If (and when)I can find my factory tabs, I'd put them back on.
Never really looked at my motor a whole lot while WFO, justy briefly to see where my tail was, and how far behind the dude is that I passed.

    Re: Boat Speed (brentl)

I guess you have a jackplate? Most likely a 10" slidemaster since thats what they come with standard. Your motor should be turning more RPM's.

25 PSI H20 is awsome! You can run WOT with 15 PSI. (which means you would probably be safe to raise the motor some)

When I run WOT with my boat I use ALL the trim I have. I trim up until it won't trim up any more. But thats where mine runs the best. Yours may be different. Mine won't go into the tilt mode when I run. Trim up until you start to lose speed and start gaining RPM's. If this fails to get the results you want I would start raising the engine some more.

Check your plugs as well. Make sure they are ALL good.

Your motor will bounce some when running. Especially in rougher water.

    Re: Boat Speed (Champer196)

So, you are saying that if it is above 15psi, It will be find. It seem's like i can raise up my jackplate some more. Now, will it ride rougher the higher the motor is.

Double check when planing the boat out i'm trimming the motor up slow to around half way on the gauge and i'm useing the trottle to get around 4500 rpm's and then i gradually give it more trottle and a little trim. Then i finally give it all the trottle and after that i trim it all the way up and let it ride and i'm getting around 5300 to 5400 rpms

You might go ask on the Yamaha forum what the minimum H20 pressure for you motor is first before you start tinkering with it.

When you go to put the boat up on plane your motor needs to be tucked all the way under (trim all the way down). Put the hammer all the way down. Once your boat breaks over and is on plane start trimming up. Won't necessarily ride rougher with your motor raised. Mine is raised as high as I can go and I have been in some nasty stuff at LOZ and it did just fine.

Trim gauge is fine, that's what it looks like.

    Just to make sure...
Are you holding it down at WFO? All the throttle and all the trim?

I will be rolling through there next week, if you want to meet at the river and run it.
