Its hard to say on the top cap without seeing it in person. Sanding won't get those gouges out. Have to have some fiberglass work done on those or at least most of them would be my guess.
Post this in the restoration forum if you haven't already.
That boat looks like all the important stuff is good. You're right, there's alot of people here that will help. I'm kind of a newby. But I love Champs. In fact, there's a guy in my club that won the state championship in that same boat. It's even the same color. His boat is what made me buy mine, and we have the only two Champs in this area that I know of. Its kind of a walleye region.

ther is no glass showing and when i rub my hand over them it dosent feal deep
For about $2-3000 a glass shop might be able to do wonders on that thing. Maybe an easy job to them...I tried refinishing a 1987 Cajun one time when I was young, and it ended up a mess.
Good place to look for tips if you plan on doing it yourself is the restore forum going to need some trailer paint too it looks!
Just curious on how long that Champ is. My neighbor has a 16ft Champ that looks the same. Pretty fast boat for a 16ft. His boat will do around 60mph with a 150 on it.
its 17.6 foot the last owner told me he had it gps at 60mph hope he was saying the truth i wont find out till ice-out that wont happen till march the will give me time to work on her![]()
What year is it, Mike? I had a 1990 176, which was same colors, just a bit different interior... Loved the handling!!!!
its a 88 im hoping with hard work and the help of the fine people on this board i can get this boat to look hot on the water do u think the wetsanding and buffing might help this weather beat boat![]()

As long as there is no Auto clear coat sprayed on the top cap, you should be able to follow the instructions pinned at the top of the boat restoration page and get that glass looking good again.
Looking at the pic from above on the top cap, in the last pic, around the right side cleat looks like dust/dirt rubbed off, or is that a clear coat peeling ? Same question in pic 2 around the Vent and light pole socket ?
If it is clear peeling, all that will have to be removed, if not, the wet sand instructions should work.
its dust i wipe off the boat how many bottle of the glaze and compound will i need to get to do the hole job
I have a feeling you need to be talking to the folks here on BBC in the Restoration Forum. We have some really knowledgeable folks there!!!
What is the Hull number? It is so close to the one I had!!!
Bass Hunter, When you get to the trailer part of your project, Have it Blasted with a Media back to bare metal. I see alot of rust and if you try to paint over it ,it can bleed back. The rust will still be there. It is worth the $$$ I Have my own Blasting Business and if you have any ?'s just ask.
