    Steve Kennedy's motor choice.

Anybody have the inside scoop on BASS pro Steve Kennedy? I was at the Oneida Lake tournament last summer and He had covered all of his Yamaha stickers with black duct tape. I figured he must be having problems with his sponsor. Then I saw a non-BASS tourney on tv the other day and he was using a Honda powered boat. Any idea's?

Steve K dont have a boat or motor sponsor...if you look he runs the same Ranger 519 he has had for like 4 years...hes jsut not into te sponsor thing from what i hear...he is sponsored by Kistler rods and Kinami baits i know hes got a few more but not many...its jsut not his thing.....i heard an interview somewhere one time and he said it leaves him more time to fish and research areas and spend time with his family since he dosent have to do all kinds of shows and so on

It is pretty sad when a pro does that. I ran into that here this year with a pro that did the same thing at the classic but cried to me to help them out with their motor issue and issues they had with the boat too. I pulled as many strings as I could to get problems resolved and the motor problems were taken care of prior to the event. The day one weigh in the participant taped over the motor logos and Hull logos. The next day at the classic weigh-in the tape was off everything. If you choose to run what you buy then be proud. If you are under warranty then what is the big deal taping over the motor or boats logo. Only makes you look caty or shallow in my opinion.
Hell BRP don't pay me nor does ChampioN. I don't have a yellow/blue shirt to wear at a national event , but I still wear my Morris Bros Champ shirts. They don't pay me to endorse them but I advertise for them for free because I believe in the product! Same with my choice in motors I told Morris bros to put the Johnson logo on my shirt because I believe in them (when it was still OMC) they don't pay me, but I endorse them.

Thanks for the info Luke. Yeah I am not sure what the deal was with the covering of the decals. I assumed he was sponsored by Yamaha but was unhappy with them for some reason. But I guess there must be something else going on there. I have talked to Steve on a few occasions and he seems real down to earth. He just seems like a genuine, normal guy that loves to fish. Not sure what this was about though.

if you look at a lot of pictures in magazines and so on when hes in his boat the motor never has decals he has taken them all off.....guess he dont want people to think hes endorsed by Yamaha when hes not....really not sure but to each their own

Wow, has it come down to this for the pros..taping names on boats and engines..whats next trolling motors and electronics..heck for that matter why not put tape over your reels/rods..I know the Elites are all about the money but isnt this going alittle overboard..like you said it makes them look real petty and foolish,,

Im with Champion Man. I will gladly diplay what I have paid for in my time. I like Evinrude and I like Champion Boats. I have Shimano and Daiwa reels and Falcon rods. I am not sponsored or paid in any way by them. I just think they are the products I like to use. As for Steve, I don't know what his boggle is. But, he is a tremendous fisherman and even better person to talk to. Have known him for a few years but, we just never talked about that stuff. His dog is cool too!
