    Live well question

    My equipment is a 2005 198 with 225 opti, my problem is the live well switch or valve. Both when in the open and closed position the live well will fill up as soon as it is in the water. And both in the open and closed position it will drain empty when running across the lake and once on the trailer. I am able to turn the switch but does have some resistance. Any suggestions?

    Merry Christmas

    Mine did the same thing and I had it replaced.. You may have debris stuck in there, also, preventing it from opening and closing all the way. Luckily, on the 05 198, it is not too difficult to get to. There is a plate under the oil reservoir (if yours is in the middle of the rigging compartment like mine). Remove the reservoir and plate...

    and Merry Christmas to you !!!

    Try running water from the livewell drain through a hose back up into it. sometimes it will get any debris that may be stuck out.

    mine has alwas been a piece of junk....never seals right i have had it replaced 3 times already and it still dont work right........ill be fixing mine this spring myself
    the problem is the valve...they use a spring tention type valve that when it has pressure on it it does not have enough tension to stay closed....very poor design in my opinion.....used to they had a plastic valve inside that was all one piece of plastic...when you switched it to "open" it had a "pathway" made through the valve that let water in or out...worked very good....now the system they have is 2 small pieces of rubber with small spring steel that are supposed to block the water off....but with the pressure they recieve they leak jsut a poor design but thats just my opinion

    Some food for thought- On my old Ranger 361, I changed the valves, actuators etc, to a new style Flo-Rite set up. The live well stayed bone dry until it was filled. IMO the best thing out there. I purchased a 99' 203 this past fall. It is overdue for all pumps to be changed. You can bet while I'm at it, a Flo-Rite system will be going in there as well.

    Jack had a good suggestion;

    Open the valve and run water backwards through the pick up point after you remove the screen full pressure from your garden hose and then back the other way from inside. The high pressure water will clean whatever debris could be stuck inside. Try getting somebody to open and close the valve while flushing with the high pressure water. The livewell pump itself only creates a few pounds of pressure.

    Good luck; Big Ed!

    I don't know how to fix your problem but can tell you what fixed mine. My '03 187 did the same thing. It was very frustrating so I can empathize with you.
    Check out the screen on the bottom of the well. Is it loose at all? I pulled mine out of the hole and put plumbers tape all around the sleeve and shoved back in. Voila! Fixed. I hope that works for you.

    The valve seals with a rubber flapper, sounds like the flapper is pinched inside the valve. Remove the valve and open it open it up. It is a easy fix and quick, as long as you can get the valve out. Mine does it once or twice a year. You can tell by how hard it is to open the valve with the operator.
