Why did you choose the 183 over the Ranger 188. I had an 06 188 ranger and liked it but sold it because it had a 150 opti and it was just slowwww. The boat was as good as of a ride you could ask for and a really big deck. It also fishes flat and as stable with two or three people on the same side no real lean at all. I like the Champ 183 but am nervous about it being as good to fish out of as the Ranger 188. Plus it being smaller is there room for two to fish from the front in this boat. I had a 188 champ back when they first came out and liked it but it still didnt fish as good as the Ranger. I sure like the looks of the 183 elite.
Never even looked or considered a Ranger 188.
If going with a 18ft'ish boat, I was considering a 188 or 183 Champ. The 183 Champ fishes exactly as big as the Champ 188, but is deeper in the cockpit, and both front & back fishing decks sit higher like the Elite models do.
I LOVE my 183!![]()
I can't see how the 188 Ranger fishes bigger than the Champ 183. The front deck width of the 183 is awsome! NO PROBLEM fishing 2 up front.![]()
And I'll put the title to my Champ up, if the Ranger 188 gives you a better all around ride than a Champ 183!That includes rough stuff!

The used, good price, and 175XS are going to be a tough match to find. The 175 rating was only on the Elites, the 175XS is also a year or so old so you are looking at a fairly new boat. If you go to a CX and a 150 they are everywhere. 99% of "team boats" flipped every year are the big un's.
A quick search shows every 18' boat I've seen you ask about in stock around the country with the 175XS new 09's. The XS alone adds about 2K.
Both the 183 and the Sabre I've seen you look at will do WAY better than the 188 with a 150!
Deals are out there on used rigs if you are flexible and willing to wait.![]()
Now theres a challenge!!! Title for Title, that 183 must ride smooth!! You must love your boat!!
