livewell timer replacement for oldie champ

the livewell timer in my old 201 bit the dust a few months ago. replaced it with this one from bass pro...

i had posted a question about it when it happened, but never followed up with my end result.
tx champ reminded me through a pm recently, so i thought i'd go ahead and follow up.

timer ran about 30 bucks and works just fine. installation was a breeze... just clipped the original wiring and twist capped into the leads from the back of the new timer.
the only trick to it was using the old square "plate" as the support.
heres a pic (taken after dark)...

that white border is the old plate turned around.

    and from the back..

you can see how big the hole from the original timer is here. hence the need for the original plate.

anyway... easy as pie if anyone ever needs to do this.

tx champ... if i ever come across that old timer, i'll send it off to ya.
everyone else... yes, i know its crooked.

Re: livewell timer replacement for oldie champ (fishinjim)

I replaced mine in my Champ the other day. Had to do something similar. Looks and works great.

I will try to post a picture when I get back in town and find the cable to hook up my camera.

Thanks, Jeff! Mine is apparently a bit different, but could still be the same timer module.

I have 2 rocker switches, Aerate (fill) and Hydro (recirc) and a 5 position rotary switch, Off - 25 - 50 - 75 - 100 (fill). 25-100 positions represent % run time. I don't have the pump-out valve control on my boat, but there is a similar valve control below the switch panel for Open & Close on the livewell drain.

This is a drawing out of my manual. I'll try & get actual pix this weekend.

yep, looks like the same timer module i had before.

no hydro air or recuirc in my boat. aerator/timer just brings in new water over and over again.
i have one of those aqua innovations oxygenators in each of my livewells. they're hooked up to a off/on toggle. stays in the off position most of the time as i mostly fish the slightly brackish water of the upper chesapeake bay. (salt water and the oxygenator = dead fish).

might try to add some sort of recuirc over the winter. or at least one of those "air stones."

sorry to take this slightly off topic, but could you explain more about salt water and oxygenator....what happens to brackish water when running aerator? I've run aerator on upper bay with no ill effects. thanks Larry

aerator is fine. i'm referring only to the oxygenator as seen here...
    http://www.keepfishalive.com/index.php

the oxygenator can't be used with any water that has salt in it. this includes livewell additives with salt. if i remember correctly, salt reacts to the oxygenator to creates a chlorine gas that is not fish friendly.
now, i'm not sure that the salt content in the upper bay is really enough to cause a problem, but i had a guy in my club come in with a bag of dead fish last year. he wasn't 100% sure the oxygenator was the cause, but he was using one.

then again, you have the maryland state record that was caught last year on the potomac. same sort of "brackish" water thats in the upper bay, but worked well for them...
    http://www.keepfishalive.com/n...id=20

i contacted the folks that make the oxygenator and asked if they knew exactly what level of salt content in the water would cause need for alarm. they couldn't give me a difinitive answer. just said i was probably better off not using it in anything that could be considered brackish.

if i could ever catch some fish down there, maybe i could do some testing. lol.
