    CD Player and Speaker Install

    Hi Guys,

I'm very keen on having a CD Player and speakers installed in my new 183 CX so I've got some tunes to listen to etc...

So my questions for ya'll are:

What type of CD Player & Speakers are good quality and suitable for use in a Boat?

Where have you mounted your CD Player?

Where have you mounted your Speakers?

And do you power it from the crankin battery?

    Regards
    Dave Young

Re: CD Player and Speaker Install (Dave Young)

Had my radio and speakers installed at the factory. It is a Jensen marine radio. It also has a CD player, aux input and Sirius Sat radio capable. Two speakers (6inch midrange). One is located on the passenger side at your shins when sitting. The other is right next to the hot foot. It is powered from the cranking battery (have to turn power on at the main panel before turning on the radio)
    Two complaints about the installation:
1.)The radio is on the passenger side just above the floor of the boat. With the dual consoles, it is impossible to do anything with it unless you lay down on the floor. I would have much prefered the radio to be placed in the glove box.
2.)The antenna on the radio is pretty weak. There are not many radio stations where I fish, but I can't pick up anything on the water. I usually have a CD in it or have the I-Pod hooked up playing other tunes.

I was thinking bout having it mounted in the glove box, but wasnt sure If there'd be any space left for keys and wallet etc ...

The other thing I'm really interested in hearing feedback from you guys is "where have you mounted you speakers"?? Did you cut holes in the side of theboat to mount them or what?

    Regards
    Dave

My stereo is mounted between the consoles (passenger side) and going into the glove box. Faceplate is facing the drivers console. Speakers installed in the gunnels above each rod locker. They do sound good with that hollow (more or less) gunnel!!

Dave I mounted mine in the glove box and I still have enough room in front of the stereo and along side of it for junk. Take a look at the flat ledge under the consoles the 183CX has these and that where I mounted box speakers. Used super heavy duty double sided tape to mount the speakers. My system is a PYLE with remote control and a CD drive, also has a nifty jack to connect my IPOD into.

I cut a hole in the side of my passenger console for the speaker, but my consoles are probly way different than yours, I just installed one speaker, its plenty loud to hear when Im fishin,

I installed the speakers in the side walls of the consols facing towards each other. I can hear them well front of back of the boat. The radio I installed in the rod locker on a bracket keeps it dry and a snap to change stations since I put it face up.
