    Bad Day at Table Rock

I was fishing with my 2000 193 elite (only had it two months) and the #2 piston on my merc 200 went poof. So my question is what would happen if I rerigged with a 225 on that boat??? sounds like a sweet combo but can it happen without any repercussions??????? thanks ~~MATT

Insurance liability I would guess for one, not able to fish T's for two (over HP limit). Maybe a ticket from the DNR for the same reason. Now if you were to keep the cowl from the 200,,,,,,,well.

can someone ticket you or not allow you to fish a tourney if your running a bigger motor? I don't see why it is there business what motor you run. I understand the insurance thing but I have that part covered!

if the maximum HP on your boat plate says 200hp then you dont go over but if it says 225hp then go ahead and upgrade,,,yes, you will not be able to fish tx or dnr could right a citation if your violating your hp...

    X2.

As far as the tourney part goes if you get caught with a boat over the max HP you could be banned from the trail, have your winnings taken, ect. Insurance is another reason. You have an accident with that boat and insurance finds out your over your max HP they may not pay out. If you cause an accident with it and its your fault due to excessive speed from an over HP boat, well, you might as well get the wallet out.

I've kown lots of guys who have done this but in my opinion its to big of risk for another 5 MPH.

Re: Bad Day at Table Rock (jcfd129)

Just to give the true skinny: I talked to the Mo State Water Patrol, You CAN legally overpower your boat. The coast guard plate on the rig is a recommendation to engine size and horsepower limit per the capacity of the boat from the factory. You CANNOT fish tournaments legally and CAN be DQ'ed if found out. From the insurance standpoint, I have an agent that insures mine knowing its a 200 on a 175 rated 184dc. I asked him about claims and he said since he knew up front it was overrated, and it was in the policy (which I pay more for ) there wouldnt be any problems on claims. He also said though that if there was an injury to someone that could be a problem to big lawyers! BTW, my engine has 175 decals on it, and unless you KNOW your motors, the average joe aint gonna be able to tell the difference just by looking--unless the cowling is popped open!

That might be the case in MO, but not necessarily in other states. Before taking a chance, I would recommend checking the laws and insurance regs thoroughly...

Re: Bad Day at Table Rock (Lea)

On my 187 (Lea's old boat), this is the plate that is on it.

I know its a mistake, as the '99 187's were rated for 175hp motors, but, its a conversation item.

On one of our local lakes the DNR would check your SER# and if you were over rated they would ticket and tow.

Well I thought the V-6 plate was on any hull over 20'. So theoretically you can hang a 250 HP V-6 on it.

Re: Bad Day at Table Rock (ChampioNman)

I hear ya, but, it'll never happen, for me that is. Maybe a 175 ProXs, but that is about it.
And then only if I needed to repower, and the 150 Opti wasn't repairable.

Quick question. Can you legally add mods to a 200 hp motor or whatever size your boat is rated for and still be legal for tournaments

Re: Bad Day at Table Rock (ssimpala71)

thanks for all of the great help! I dont even know if i can afford a repower with a 225 but I am seriously entertaining the idea. I may just build my current motor up a little bit. It ran 70 ish before and If i send my prop to mark while the motor is down and he blue prints it for me and gives me a min. of 3 mph more then how much more do I really need right?! ~~MATT

just read the rules and see,i have fished some that specifically state no altered engines..then i guess it depends,do they want to dyno it,it is horsepower rated and if your over the % of hp allowed and they want to persue it..you can not legally alter a 2000 model motor so that would be illegal too..

You can't legally mod anything 1997 or newer due to emmisions.
