I just installed a new psi gauge and it seems to read a lot lower than the last one. I used to see up to 28psi and now the most I see is 14. I did add 2" of setback but that is the only change. What gives?

I just looked at your boat Jeff, where in the world did you have room for another gauge.![]()

Hopefully I won't need to install any more! I might have to start cutting holes in the windshield.![]()
Jeff,
I called Merc about what the PSI for my motor, as I was getting all sorts of numbers from others as to what the PSI should be. I also called my dealer.
Here is what they both said. Every gauge will read differently, depending on age and maintenance.
For my 08 175 Opti, Merc said 12 psi is bang on for that motor. So everyone telling me I should be seeing 20 + PSI may be basing it on their PSI readings with an older possibly less accurate gauge.
Call Mercury. Ask them what the optimal PSI for your motor should be. It is possible that you have been running @ 14 psi all along -its that your old gauge wasn't accurate.
