    1992 champ 186

OK guys I posted this on the set up by Todd page, but I thought one of you all might be able to help me. I have a 1992 186 that we have done a small restoration on. In this, I have hung a 1997 Merc 200 EFI on it, I know this is a little more than what the boat is rated for. My problem is that the boat is VERY SLOW coming out of the hole, I have not gotten a WOT run on it yet. I currently have two different props to use, the first is a 3 blade 26P tempest, the other is a 4 blade 24p, the motor is setting about 3" below the pad of the boat. Any help that you all might be able to lend is much needed.
    Thanks guys and great board.

are they Plus series props with the PVS plugs in them? if so change your plugs around....sounds like your not gettin enough vent on te prop on take off....what kind of RPMs does it spin up to before it gets a bite

I am pretty new at all of this, what do you mean by the vents and how do change them around. Once it does come out of the hole right before it breaks over it is turning 4000, or maybe I should say as it starts to plane out. Before that it is sounds like it is bogging down and the motor is turning 2 to 2500.

    Thanks

Welcome to the BBC and the Champion forum!!! Lots of very knowledgeable folks here....

    If it's for sure a 1992 model, it is a 184. They did not make a 186 until 1995.

The holes/vents Luke is referring to, are at the front of the Tempest and Trophy Plus props. The larger the holes, the faster the prop will spin up for your hole shot. They do not affect top end. Any Merc dealer should have sets of plugs for those holes, with various size holes. Experiment with them....

and tell us your results....lots of folks wanting to help....

I HAD A 91 184 WITH A 200 EVINRUDE AND RAN A 24 RAKER @71 GPS WITHOUT A JACKPLATE. THAT IS ONE NICE BOAT, IF I REMEMBER , IT ONLY WEIGHED 1250 LBS. AND IT IS EASY TO LIFT .
