Anybody have this set up and could fill me in on how the boat performs, holeshot, handling and top end speed? I am concerned that this motor is underpowered vs. a true 250hp engine..Thanks

yes its underpowered, would probably hurt your reale value and to make it even more clear from my perspective the ETEC is a real challenge to set up on a heavy hull (Champion, Ranger, Legend).
If speed is your thing there are better choices. If fuel mileage and quiet operation mean more to you then maybe the ETEC would be your thing.

well they say it puts out 247hp at the prop, but many people have had lower unit issues and overheating. I know most engines have issues at some point, but when i demo a 210 last week it had a 250XS on it and it was doing about 70mph with both of us. I would prefer a true 250hp on the back but the deal has a ETEC225HO and i dont want to
be stuck if this engine is going to struggle to move boat and holeshot and manuvering in rough water...
have to be a pretty good deal to get a 50k boat with an underpowered engine you can't resell....![]()

That boat needs a 250 it's a heavy boat some guy's on here are seeing 74 mph. GPS with the PRO XS. Don't forget the 10% horsepower rule manufacturers have to abide by a 250 is really a 270 or more. Good luck in your decision.![]()
The 250 HPDI is a great engine to power a heavy boat like the 210. The lower unit provides better lift on a Champion hull than the Mercs and ETECS. You don't need to add trim extenders.
I had a 200 Elite w/225 HO and it was a 68-69 mph boat. I would not recommend a 225 anything on the 210.
Allison XB21 2+2, Merc 250 ProXS, 1.62 Sportmaster, Hydromotive Engineering X-OB 29
Excel 1751 Viper F4, Tohatsu 50 4-stroke, EZ-Trac trailer
FeelFree Lure 11.5 Kayak
The new 250 E-tec will be a smoker on that 210. Granted the 225HO WILL spin up a 203 hull. The new 250 HO WILL make it scream.![]()
thanks for the feedback, i was a little leary of the 225HO in pushing such a heavy hull and, there is a Yam250 but the boat is not new and would not have lifetime warranty, i think i will wait until the right deal comes along....
A 225 ETEC is a bit light on that hull. You'll be in mid sixties for top speed and have a pretty anemic holeshot. I mean, a 210 is supposed to be big and bad. That's the whole deal with one. It's the state-of-the-art in bassboats and should be run with a 250.

Where did you get this info??? People should really only comment on first hand experience.

I would say that Duane is rather knowledgable about Champs. I had a 250 HPDI on my 210 and wished I had a 300!
The 210 is a very nice and BIG boat. I too would not even think of putting a 225 on that hull.
Maybe his Yamaha stayed together long enough to get up to speed. He should let us know![]()

There's no question about Duane's experince and experiences....if he says it's so, you can take it to the bank.
Duane was with us when we rigged the B&WB test boats......210's and 200's.
I echo his comments to the letter.

I agree totally. Duane has plenty of experience with the Champs (Mercs, Yammies, and 'Rudes).![]()

Well I guess no matter what board you go on you always have one, Boaters Marine Pro Staff way to represent.I think Duane has enough experience to go around.

I represent just fine.
There is 0 doubt a 210/Merc will out perform a 210/Yamaha all things equal....be happy to let anyone test drive mine anytime.
