1998 Rude 175 carbed, NO OIL warning

Uh oh. This can't be good.

Back ground: 98 motor installed new in spring 99. Only problem thus far is trash in carb causing float to remain open ('03). And a stuck open thermostat once ('04). Other thand that is has had a steady diet of OMC/Bomb oil. I fish all winter here in central VA. I hate summer and the boat gets little use in July and August.

Sunday morning. 40° out. Motor a little rough to start (not normal) but okay. Warming up at idle, partner parking the truck, I get a Continuous horn, system check gauge No Oil light lit. Turned it off. Tank is more than half full. Bulb is tight. No visible kink in hose. Pulled cap off tank (airlock?). Everything seems okay. Restart. No alarm. Idle, in gear, out towards no wake bouy. Idled around for maybe 3 minutes watching/listening for any signs of trouble. Get continuous horn again and NO OIL light. Turned it off. Trolling motor back to ramp and load (float) it up. Back home. Checked tank screen, clean as a pin. Pulled oil line loose from bottom of pump. Gas in the line.

My question: Should there be mixed gas in this line? My thinking is this should be nice clean oil only. Is that a problem?

Motor has ran great for 6 years. I love it. Is it time for a new VRO pump?

    Thanks,
    Dayton

You shouldn't have gas on the input side of your VRO, this line comes directly out of the oil tank. Get a new one for about $270.00 from your local BRP dealer. Make sure you purge the oil line when you hook it up, mark the tank and pre-mix the gas with oil to be safe and make sure the pump is working correctly. CM

The "Champ Man" is correct, it sounds like new pump time. Bombardier beefed them up and they are much better.

Your gas in the oil problem is possibly caused by a hairline crack or an internal check valve that decided to leak a bit, something like CM as he gets older.
