99 Johnson 150 lower unit

Is this Black seal supposed to stick out like this?
I just bought the boat and I didn't notice this before. I know my old mercury didn't have it.

That is a weed ring or cavitation ring to keep the "Renegade" prop from blowing out during holeshot...........When you take your prop off, It simply sticks in the casing. You might see some wear on it due to exhaust heat.....Mark, here on the props forum can get you an aluminum ring for your prop fairly cheap that will do the same thing and not melt or stick out like the one you have..........................Roger

Not really, It kind of plugs in and should be firm........prolly burned a tad from exhaust heat...........Take the prop off and take a look at it...You can get a new one from your dealer for very little, but it too will eventually melt........good luck.............Roger

Thanks, I'll check with Mark on the prop page, I hate replacing stuff over and over again, The way it looks I should probably send him my prop to be blueprinted as well, It looks like the thing to do, and who can't use 3 or more MPH.
