    1995 200hp Evin. Vindicator

Looking at a '95 BassCat Pantera II. It has a '95 (?) Evinrude 200hp Vindicator on it. How many hours would be considered excessive or in the danger zone for problems on these engines? How many psi is acceptable for compression? What's the acceptable spread between cylinders on the compression check? 10-15 psi? More or less?. Good outboard or problematic? Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

I'll bump my own post once. C'mon guys, I just need a a little schooling before I talk with the dealer. Would prefer to know what to look for before hand.

Compression gauges vary in readings 10-15% variance between all 6 is acceptable. The motors are generally trouble free, gas thrusty but generally trouble free. Keep them clean internally run XD-50 in it and you should be good to go. Based on your model year, about 400-1,000 hrs wouldn't be out of the ordinary.

Those were the engines that you need to fatten #2 carb and put the drain plugs in the carb bowls too, if it hasn't been done yet.

What is the Mfg recommended redline? What do most folks run them up to? I know with some brands/models the redline is the redline and no more but with some models it seems they do just fine running 200-500 rpm or sometimes more beyond the Mfg suggested limits. Where do the 200hp Vindicators fit in?

5800, PP limiter is about 6250 but with a '95 motor, do that long and you will be cussing an Evinrude for having internals becoming externals, keep it below 5800 . Pull the cowl and look for the VRO it is on the port side next to the carbs, Look at the fuel output elbow and see if it is brown or black with a silver hold down. If it is brown elbow then it is an older VRO. Tell the dealer you want it upgraded to a VRO/OMS as it is 11years old anyway. Tell him to pull one of the carb drain screws if the bottom is smooth then tell him you want the new style plugs 0344267 on all carbs, and up 2 sizes on #2 carb High Speed orifice. New H20 pump kit and then see what he says. Then tell him you'll take it for the asking price after doing all of this. If he wants to move the boat he'll do it.
