    Winter Projects?

Well us in the north are about to get our first blast of cold for the next 6 months while the guys down south are still fishing. What winter projects does everybody have in store on their boats?

The wife and I are in the process of closing on our first house so my boat will FINALLY be able to live indoors and somewhere I can work on it this winter without freezing. So after a season on the boat here are some of the things I'm going to be adding.

-Moving my 998 from the ledge by the throttle to a ram ball on the side of the console.
-Adding a 898 that will use the old ram ball the 998 was on, and network to the 998.
-Running a network cable and setting up a second power cord for the 898 at the front of the boat. Plan is to be able to be use it at more than one spot in the boat depending on whats going on that particular day.
-Putting in the minn kota quick release bracket so I can switch between my Terrova and Edge motors easily.
-Adding a 24v plug at the bow for the trolling motors.
-Installing a Humminbird HS gps puck where my normal puck is now. Moving the GPS puck I have to the front of the boat for use by the 898 when up there.
-Installing 5 rod holder bases. Putting 2 flush mounts up front in the deck and two somewhere in the back of the boat. Going to also mount one on the ledge next to the driver. When I was running bottom bouncers for walleye this summer it was a definite got to have so I'm going to remedy that this winter.

Originally I was going to mount up some spider rig rod holders on the front but thankfully I looked up the Illinois laws and unfortunately they are as backward as the rest of the state with only 3 rods per person allowed for trolling so nix that idea and go with 4 or 5 regular rod holders.

What are some of your winter projects on your tin for the winter?

The boat is pretty much set up like I want.... But I now have my LED trailer lights and want to install them soon. I have some trolling rod holders but may wait until spring. The LEDs are my main thing for now. I think I will also add a better step to the trailer for getting out of the boat. I have something that I take on and off as needed if I do not have a fishing buddy but will probably fab up something a little better and maybe permanent.

Have you replaced the plugs yet? Should be done at around 20 hours because of the break in and double oiling for the first 10 hours. Hopefully its something simple like that.

Nothing big planned here. Gonna tear down the hubs and clean inspect and repack everything. Its been a busy year with projects for me so we will be fishing mostly I think.

I believe so alotmof stuff going on for the first 10 hours. I got that part out of the way and ran it for what felt like forever and got the breakin done in a few days. Not alot of fishing but it was nice to drive it how I wanted afterwards. It started burning far less oil after that. At first it really went through it.

Bet it ends up being fuel related. You really have to be careful about the ethanol stuff you get unless you are lucky enough to have a fuel source that sells pure no ethanol gas.

Certainly possible. Ranger rt do you run additives such as quickcare and quickleen or stabil in every tank? Also when you serviced it and drained the vst were there any chunks or debris in the filter side of the chamber? I always look down into the hospusing when the filter is out to confirm its clean

new fuel filter(the original one was spotless),vst in sparkling clean...run dons cocktail..it has always spurdered when you take off since it was new,but i thought it was over oiling and would get better..but its basically the same except the miss is a litte worse..what gets me is it only does it as soon as it planes off.a few skips like every 4 to 5 seconds, then it will stop after a minute or two.i have stood the boat straight up and had it in a terrible strain, and it seems like the more its under a strain the better it runs.

This is going to sound stupid, but have you tried another prop? I've had a couple of different aluminums that would let go a few times after the boat got on top,and then would grip again, and this would go on 4-7 times till the speed picked up.It would sure give you the feeling of a misfire.

Well I got a good size list, BUT! I promised The wife when winter set in, I would put in new tile in kitchen and dinning room. Hardwood floors in living room. So my boat projects are on hold till her list is done. The house is ten years old. As soon as it hit that mark, suddenly everything is old. But happy wife happy life !
