question for anyone with a 174 zw

just wondering what kind of speed are you getting out of your 174. i have a 1990 174zw with a mariner 115 and a mercury 19 p alum prop and a 6 inch manual jackplate. It runs 39-40 on gps and wot is about 5000 and i can up to 5250. Just wondering if this is setup within reason and i know its a 174 just looking to maximize performance on the old girl.

    any ideas would be great

You would get better speed with a SS prop. I sold several of these boats with the same motor. I never rigged one out with the jack plate. Your boat should hit around 45 mph. you can turn these motors more than 5000 and in fact you should. It's been a while but I think we put 17 pitch SS props on these boats. Maybe 19's I just don't remember.

Thanks for the info. The biggest problem i have up here is the lack of support from our marine dealers. To to buy a prop and if it dont work to exchange it is a big deal for them. And the prices are high its alot cheaper to buy off iboats but there is no trying and exchanging with them.

    Thanks

I think we put 17's with an Evinrude and 19 with the Mariner. If you can find a used Turbo I in 19 pitch I think you'll be OK. A good one that has not been repaired, these props do not have welded blades and were very uniform in performance. A Turbo II would work for you also. These would be the old stlye Turbo's. The Turbo I is still available new.

I think i will stick with the 19. I was asking our prop guy and he said a ss prop would not do any better then my alum would. LOL He said for an ss prop you need a 150+ motor for it to make a difference. I get frustrated with these guys up here. We have hundreds of lakes a few hours from here and we have our only prop guy who is useless. Thank god for sites like this.

Im going to get the motor tuned and the carbs done since the primer ball just doesnt get really hard and i have to prime it even after sitting for 30 minutes.

    Thanks a million
