I have the opportunity to purchase a 1984 cajun fishing boat with 150 evinrude. Very clean boat.
Also have opportunity to buy a pontoon fish boat that has very little use. Has a 90 4stroke Merc. Only problem is that I will need to re cover the seats, he has left it outside. I can purchase for $4000.00, figure it will cost about 2k to get up to par.
Need advice.
Live at the lake in Lincolnton Ga. so either boat will have no problem with launching.

This one is tough to respond to. There are so many variables involved. Kids? Mostly fish? Mostly joy ride? Basically it's get what you think will serve you best and go with it.
We also live on the lake and have at one time or another had 5 boats for various uses. We have a pontoon (wife, grand-kids, company). I have an 18' Cajun Bass boat and a 16.5' deep V tin boat for fishing.
I do know I bought an older pontoon with a really bad interior with the intention of replacing the seats. It never happened. Custom re-cover cost way too much money. Had trouble finding the exact configuration to just start from scratch and replace everything. Drove it for a couple years (got tired of getting pinched in the ass by the rotted upholstery) and traded it for a rig with excellent interior.
I am not sure what that pontoon boat would sell for in clean ready to go condition, but it better be at least $7000. Any time you have to put $2000 into a $4000 boat just to get it up to par, you better be ready to spend another $1000 for unforseen issues.
