Are ya'll's cajuns as slow as mine?

got to be the slowest big boat on the water. 52 mph on gps. Full throttle, full trim, won't lift, boat weighs a ton. My wife loves it though, won't bounce you in 3 ft. chop. 209xxl, '94 model with a '94 200 hp Johnson venom. Tried different props with little or no change. Thinking about trading for a Merc in 225 but I don't know if it will help this barge or not.

Yea, Cajun's were never noted for their speed. My 18.5 Paul Elias topped out at about 58 or so on the speedometer with a 150, when carrying a full load. I'm not familure with your particular model, but it sounds like a big, heavy boat.

200 might not be enough power. What's it rated for?

My old 1986 Maverick w/115hp used to run 52gps. Of course, it was only 16'4" and weighed like 850 lbs. It actually was a very light hull, and didn't have much of a bow to it. I always felt it was designed for speed, versus ride/rough water handling. It was a fun boat to drive!

I have an '84 RGFM w/'84 150 Mariner. The only time I have had it on gps I had 2 people with all our gear, tackle, 3/4 tank of gas and it ran 56.4mph.

Re: Are ya'll's cajuns as slow as mine? (alces1954)

I agree about the ride. My wife would kill me if I sold it. I've been caught out in some storms where the waves were taller than my boat is long, and I think it's 20"9'. I would love to get some lift out of this thing. I've owned this boat for 11 years, and don't know what to do short of trading motors. It's rated for 200hp, which seems to me a little light. I'm running a 25 shooter which I know is not a speed prop. I've tried a raker and a couple of other ones, but killed the low end. Any suggestions?

my 1987 175 fishing machine ,1991 XR4, runs 55 loaded,, it needs some more lift, running a High Five prop,, going to get a Trophy 24 pitch and see if that helps..maybe if i would unload about 200 pounds of plastics that would help

Re: Are ya'll's cajuns as slow as mine? (BigCranks)

i just bought a 95 209 Pro w/ a 200 Venom. no jackplate, 4 blade renegade 23p and i get about 62 mph gps. it also came w/ a spare 25p renegade that i haven't tried yet. w/ 2 full tanks of gas (50 gal) it was a little slow out of the hole so i put a hydrofoil on and it jumps out and still 62 b/c the foil is out of the water WOT. since i put the foil on i'm going to try the 25p to see if i can get a few more MPH and hopefully still have decent hole shot.

w/ all that said it seems that yours should be getting similar performance...

have you done a compression check?

Re: Are ya'll's cajuns as slow as mine? (auscajun)

i'll add that the boat is an awesome ride... my "test drive" was on Lake Conroe, TX a couple of months ago w/ 4' rollers in the out in the middle and it just came down so soft on them - i was sold! considering i'm coming from an 18.5' Skeeter fish/ski and a 16' Monark fish/ski before that which would both would have beat you to pieces in conditions like that

again for an earlier post about holeshot i highly recommend a hydrofoil of some sort - it will cut your planing time in 1/2 (best $50 you'll spend on your boat)

I have a '97 205dc with a 200hp venom and I gps 60mph with full tanks and a partner. May not be the fastest boat in the water, but what a great ride.
