    Repairing floor in 1980 Cajun

Hello fellow Cajun owners. I am both a new member to this forum and a new Cajun owner. Living in Louisiana all my life, I have heard the wonderful stories from Cajun owners about their boats and how most would rather keep their "old" Cajun than buy a new boat. Long story short when the opportunity to purchase one came available, I jumped at it.

My Cajun is a 1980, not sure of model yet, but it is a fish and ski. The only problem I could find was a soft spot in the floor by the rear deck. The floor was completely gone around the drain and I suspect some standing water/evaporation was the cause of the rot. I'm not concerned about replacing the floor, seems an easy enough job if I take my time and do it right. The rot was restricted to two small spots but I am replacing a 36"X 28" area just to be safe.

I have a question, hopefully someone out here can answer. How does the boat drain from this area. Upon removing the floor I can see the fiberglass encapsulated channel where the water is supposed to go, but cannot figure out how it is supposed to drain towards the back. There does not appear to be a channel going out towards the transom drain. Before I lay the new floor I want to make sure everything is right.

Any advise or help is greatly appreciated.

The water should just drop into the bilge area and flow towards the drain hole in the back. Most trailers let you raise the front of the boat up, and force the water towards the rear. While on the water, you will need a bilge pump to remove any rain water going thru the floor drain. Good luck with your boat!
