Engine to Jackplate 1/2 inch bolts

I recently mounted a 2 inch T&H marine spacer kit on my 12 inch Rapid Jack with the included 1/2 inch coarse stainless bolts. It seems to me that these 1/2 inch bolts might be a bit overstressed supporting a 250 . Has anyone ever had any problem with breaking 1/2 inch transom mount bolts? I measured the factory holes in my merc 250 XS and feel that the 9/16 bolts would be better suited. --- mike

I broke the heads off two thru transom bolts. I replaced all four with 1/2 stainless bolts, washers and nuts with jamb nuts. I now replace them every season along with the engine to plate bolts. Try to remember to check them every 2-3 times I got to lake.

Go to your local nut & bolt store and ask about 1/2 or 9/16 bolts, washers, nuts & poly-lok nuts in Grade 8 with a rust preventive plating for a marine application. Other than custom made fasteners, these are the strongest fasteners available.
