    1. 1st 10 min. fast idle in neutral
    2.Next 50 min. 3,000 RPM - Vary speed occasionally
    3. Second hour Accelerate to full throttle to on plane. Reduce throttle to 4,000 RPM. Vary speed occasionally.
    4. Run at full throttle for 10 min. then run at 4,000 RPM for 10-12 minutes to allow engine to cool.
    5. 3rd to 10th hours Avoid operating at full throttle for more than 5 min. Vary speeds occasionally.
This is stright out of the owners manual. This is exactly how & what I did with my '01.

After this procedure DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!

On my new HPDI, that I got from C&O, they marked thru the first 10 Min at Idle and put first 10 min in Gear at Idle......

I was told never idle out of gear, start it and put it in gear immediately!

Re: Procedures to break in a new 250 hpdi (tnmark)

The owner's manual on my '07 says to do the first 10 minutes in gear as did Gary at C&O. The reason for this is the HPDI idles on only 4 cylinders when in neutral. Putting the boat in gear fires all 6 cylinders and breaks them all in together.

Also, #4 is incorrect. You are not supposed to run at full-throttle for 10 minutes. You can run at full throttle during the second hour for no more than 1 minute. Then, run at 4,000 rpms for 10-12 minutes to allow the motor to cool back down.
