I am interested in buying a stratos with a 2000 225 FFI serial #G04876327. Do these motors have any frequent or common problems? I will be test driving it on Thursday.

This motor has had a PDS strap kit, power head , trim unit, CPS sensor in its warranty life, these are not bad things and if the boat fits your budget then go for it.

What is a PDS strap kit and a CPS sensor?

PDS strap kit is a injector bolt/strap kit that helps hold the injectors on your motor.

CPS... is the Crank Position Sensor.

Thanks Rusty. I have a little 1993 Sprint 15 ft with a 50 Force by Mercury right now and This Stratos 21 ss extreme is going to feel like a Cadillac. I just want to make sure I am checking out every thing I can. They are fixing some gel coat scratches and a battery. They are a skeeter and Yamaha dealer and say they can't find out how many hours are on the motor because they don't have the computer program for the Evinrudes. Would this be true?

If the dealer Does Not have the Diagnostic Software for this motor they would not be able to access the information in the EMM.

Before you buy the boat and motor I would have a certified Evinrude Tech hook up his computer and find out what RPMs,overheat? etc.

I just got a 2000 225 ficht and it is doing great so far. It sure starts up fast and runs smooth and quite. I say go for it.

Well, I did it! got the boat today. It sure ran well and is so quiet compared to my little 50 hp force.

I love my 2001 'Rude ram 225 (249 hp).

The only problems have been the starter and foot. The foot kept getting the seal broken by fishing line when I trolled around. Now I just make sure that there is no line wrapped around the prop before going. I've had her since 2001. I'm sold on this engine. Enjoy. P. S. stay away from after market parts.
