    ETEC 150 HO owners

I have a 2006 ETEC 150 HO and am thoroughly impressed.... Just repowered from a flawless (yes, flawless) '99 150 FICHT. Periodically I have a few routine questions that perhaps one of you other ETEC 150 owners could answer ...... Appears most of the Evinrude experts are busy enough without bothering them with trivia questions...... If you are also interested, please reply if you are powered with an ETEC 150 and if I see you online, I could then IM or get in contact with you..... NO, for some comedians out there, I am not wanting to start a ETEC 150 club oranything, just curious of how many of us are out there with a common interest ....Thanks and Tight Lines

Re: ETEC 150 HO owners (Dover57)

    I am not a ETEC 150 HO owner yet. Presently I am running a 1985 XP150 on a 19'1" CC Key West.
My question is; how much difference in performance do you find between you old '99 150 FICHT and the newly acquired ETEC 150 HO, do you use the same prop, gas and oil consumption, etc?

    Regards,

Go ahead and spill out those questions. We are here to help and to entertain.

Rusty will tell you to use the wrong sparkplugs, Championman will say to use epsom salts in your battery and mothballs in your gas tank, while I sit back and make smart-ass remarks. What more can you ask for?

Welcome aboard Dover, The fichts that stayed together were the epitome of 2 stroke engines. OMC led the way with a technology that would revoloutinize the industry, with the exception of many failures,In my opinion due to dealers and techs not being up to par with it, Then when BRP came aboard and fixed the problems and developed the E-TECs a whole new technology evolved with the smoothest, quietest, efficient, and most enviroment friendly 2 stroke out there. Hope you have many happy years with your engine!!!

I bought a new 150 Etec in the Spring and couldn't be happier with the performance, gas and oil economy, quietness, etc. I'd love to discuss small issues to see if others are experiencing the same thing with their 150 Etec.

Okay, I'll bite. 150 Etec, purchased 5/18/06, ser# CFF-246. On the initial trial run with the dealer, experienced low/no oil alarms numerous times, EMM changed, no problems with that again except on one occasion in very rough seas when the oil tank was not full. Probably caught an air bubble, no problem with that since. I've had a couple of updates, one of which apparently put the motor back into break in mode and dramatically increased oil usage for a short while, no problems snince then. Only recurring problem is a hesitation when "putting the hammer down" as the engine rev's up, it pauses slightly and then goes on about its merry way. Anyone else experiencing this?

This is not really the correct info we need. We need the full model & serial number.

Like E150DPXSU_. The last letter is also important. Serial # will also allow us to look at the warranty history.

There is a TPS calibration that can be checked & set by the dealer. The dealer can also look at the back pressure readings on a labtop to see if the back pressure tube is ok. This may resolve this minor hesitation issue. You should also document the current map version you have so it can be compared to the latest available versions in the future.

    Re: (RUSTY63)

My non-technical analysis of '99 150hp FICHT versus new 150 ETEC HO .... Prop is Renegade 23p, boat is Stratos 273..... Never did a GPS on either, however both motors push the 273 faster than I care to go (not the most experienced driver and I love all the "how to advice" to get thru the chinewalk --- I'd like to see someone driver my 273 with either motor at max RPM).....I do know that it goes faster by speedo (same reference point I will use for both engines) at a lower 150 ETEC (RPM) than the 150 FICHT did..... gas usage is the same same for both engines.... oil usage was more with the FICHT and when I say more, neither really used much but I really have to look close to see if any was used at all with the 150 ETEC (usually 1-hour trips) .... Power ---this is the difference.......the 150 FICHT took several more boat lengths to get on plane; the 150 ETEC will give you whiplash, not really but it will throw you back in the seat.... I pull my girls (both altogether about 160 pounds) on a 2 person O'Brien tube with the 150 ETEC and I only know they're back there when I go around a curve --- now this may be up to 40mph speeds by speedo but I never feel the tube before or while I'm on plane...... All in all, I'm sure the boat would go faster with a 24 pitch Raker but it makes no difference to me and since I fish highland resevoirs, it is nice to be able to make tighter turns with a 23p 3-blade prop at night and in many creek arms in the lakes I fish..... All in all, I'm and I am glad I don't have to each and every time I launched as I did with my old 150 FICHT though it never left me stranded and I never had one problem out of it (I read all the comments on questions about max RPM with XXXX prop and the speed needed by some --- we'll I always got there and never maxed out the RPM on my old FICHT so I'll consider that $$$$$$ in the bank) tight lines and hoped this answered some questions a few have asked.....

    Re: (Dover57)

Thanks for your info, it defiantly shows that the newer 150's are more powerful than that older 150's such as mine. on a 1600 lbs. dry weigh boat. My engine has only been able to twist a 19"-@ 5200 rpm's and a 21" SST 4950 rpm's prop, while the Intruders, Faststrikes, Ficht and now the newer ETEC's are twisting much higher pitch props at higher rpm's and higher speeds.

Re: ETEC 150 HO owners (Dover57)

Question, I have a Ranger 184 Flats boat, 1350lbs, with a new e-tec 150 H.O. We tested a 24 raker and ran 47 @ 4750rpm. Then ran a 21 viper ran 53 @ 5500rpm. My motor is designed to max at 5800 rpm. And suggestions on a better prop for more top end speed Ie:tempest, enertia etc. Pitch?

Re: ETEC 150 HO owners (bayouangler)

If you are turning 5500 rpm's with your normal fishing load, full tank of gas, fishing gear etc.? you might want to flirt with a 19" pitch prop or maybe raise your engine, depending on its present location.
