Amongst thousands of acres of cornfields in Northern Indiana sits a special place called Sherm’s Marine in the town of Wabash. People come from as far as California and Canada to do business with this top notch Basscat dude named Sherm. On this day Santa, aka Basscat Boats, had a delivery there for me. On a hot summer day last July I went to Sherm’s to have some service work done on my Mercury. I can’t really say I had ever seen a Basscat with my own eyes. I just don’t see them in my parts. From that day forward I kept thinking about Basscat’s. After a couple more trips to Sherm’s I couldn’t hold back any longer. On October 14th I ordered my Cat. Six weeks later it arrived at Sherm’s. I let Sherm and his elves take their time rigging this as he had received 4 cats in the past 2 weeks and was swamped with riggings and winterizings. No rush on my part as its boat hibernation season here. I have all winter to organize it the way I want. I do have to remove the Lowrance Speaker grilles as they only come white. Those will be painted black. The quality and detail of this boat is impeccable.
My wife and I left at 6:30AM this morning for our 3 hour journey north to pick up my new BCB and drop off my Nitro I was trading in. Clear skies with all the stars out when we left made for good driving. An hour from Sherm’s it started snowing and roads were getting slick. I hit an ice patch on a bridge on I-69 and thought I was going to lose it. I really thought I had soiled undergarments after that one and never seen my wifes eyes get so big. Luckily no other traffic was around and the bridge was short and caught traction. The rest of the trip I had white knuckle syndrome. After a couple hours at Sherm’s and going over everything in detail about the boat it was time to head south. There was no way I hauling that boat without a cover and hated to use my new Dean’s cover. Sherm was nice enough to loan me a BCB shipping cover and I’ll ship it back to him Monday. The haul back home was better as temps had melted the roads and just wet but messy. By the time I got home the sun was shining. I gave the new Cat a thorough wash and finished her off with a final wipe down of Bass Boat Saver. It's handy having a 30' deep barn to store her.
Thank you Sherm, BCB and especially my wife!
