    Underwear Stain...

Is what happens when your boat comes out if gear at 80mph! Somehow I kept it from hooking but I don't need that experience again. I haven't looked into it yet but Im thinking some way to hold the shifter in position may be in order.

Yep...see my post below. Your shifter vibrated out of gear. I ended up taking a Dremel and cutting a notch in the carbon fiber cover to hold the shifter. Not pretty but effective. When I contacted the factory about this (late 2007) they said theyve never had that happen!

Wow. I have had my fuel pump quit in the mid 70's on my xb2003 and the motor die but, she just coasted to nice easy stop. Not sure what would happen at 80. Never let off the gas completely at that speed. Not sure I want to find out either. Bet it scared you to death though.

My shifter was sliding toward neutral. I took the shifter apart and tightened the spring that holds the shifter in place. To add to what Rob has mentioned, I think the notches need to be slightly deeper to hold the shifter in place.

I'm not ready to fully blame the shifter yet I have some issues with how it was rigged and how the sporty conversion is done some of which I have fixed but for a safety measure I will definately make a notch or something. I own a machine shop so in sure I can make an improvement in that area.

On another note the SHO seems to be working out well. Kyle and I got together and ran the boats and have been discussing some other improvements. The tilt/trim pivot needs some work to remove some slop and solid mounts may give a more positive feel other than that I am happy with the motor maybe he will chime in herewith his opinion.

What HP is it? Isn't it a 250? I would have thought it should have had solid motor mounts from the factory?

I guess I learned something new then. I thought all manufacturers put solid mounts on the higher HP motors.

    Re: (RoadrashPaul)

From what little I know about Mercs, the only difference from a Pro XS and Sport XS models are the gearcase and solid motor mounts on the sport models.

I have nothing hardly at all to base my experience on but I'm pretty satisfied. I hit 84-85 on grand lake while waiting for nick. If I put it on a diet it would probably be quite a bit quicker. I don't think it handles too bad with the modded yamaha LU.

    Kyle,

Hopefully when you come back the wind will cooperate a little better the fishing is hot and getting hotter it took 25 lbs to win the triton/ranger Sunday. Of course like last time we will be to busy fishing to go joy riding!

I agree on the diet thing I would bet we have the heaviest loaded boats but I also think we will both be bumping 90 after some experience and fine tuning...we will make SHO owners proud. I passed a FX with the same motor as me last nite at about 82 he was quite surprised lol. It's so fun drawing out last and passing the number one boat.

    Re: Underwear Stain... (ndh78)

man I bet that was scary. Ive never had that happen but te other evening I was running back to the launch and noticed my boat didn't exactly feel right. I slowed down a bit and good thing. I looked down and my phone was in my pocket laying on the up trim button on the control box needless to say that trim switch was disabled when I got home

    Re: (Unimog)

All Mercury Pro XS engines now come std. with solid motor mounts also, the early ones did not.
The only difference in the Sport and Pro models are the lower units, decals and warranty.
