what is a good general overall prop for this boat with a merc 250 with sportmaster lowerunit?
what is a good general overall prop for this boat with a merc 250 with sportmaster lowerunit?
It will depend on the gears. When I have my 1:75 gears in, a big hub prop such as a Hydromotive Quad IV X-OB is good. When Im running the the 1:62 gears, I much prefer an over the hub prop such as a cut Chopper or Performer.
However...a 27 Allison Cut Trophy regardless of gears, is very hard to beat!
My boat likes a 26 Trophy much better than a 27. My boat quit using trophies after it broke several. I get the same performance and more durability from a 26 txp. Pro ET's are great but after breaking four I quit using them too.
i will have the 1:62 gears and im trying ti find a prop that I'm not going to be slingind blades like crazy. Also where do u guys get your props, mark Croxton does most of my work thus far. i think my boat is coming with a 26 TXP.
I don't have my props worked anymore because I like having warranty on them. There are probably two good choices for working Allison props. Perfomance Propeller in Soddy Daisy, TN does good work and they are great guys. They do most of the work for Allison. I would like to have my TXP ally cut and may have it done at some point. The other person is Robbie Patterson. he seems to kno a lot about how to cut a prop for a BasSport pro. There aren't many of these boats out there so there isn't a lot of knowledge on them. I have ran a ton of different props on my boat and they all run the same speed (within 1 mph). You will like the TXP. A pro et drives better than anything. I heard Merc has redesigned them with thicker blades due to the poor dependability which will probably take away from the performance. I believe Peformance Propeller makes a Pro et like prop and they don't break.
Ive never had a prop failure on the 2 Allisons Ive owned. If you want the best all around prop, order a 27 Allison Cut trophy from Soddy Daisy and then send it to Robbie for added tweaking...
I wish I had your motor Rob. Its obviously got more grunt than mine. 27 Trophy was not a good prop for mine. Consider yourself lucky with the Trophy props. I can't keep ears on any Mercury prop.
Robbie Patterson gear case, Eric Simon flywheel and ECU...it wasnt easy...OR CHEAP!![]()
Robbie also does the Allison cut Trophies so you can have it all done at one location. The one we ran on the Pro for the Bass and Walleye article was worked by Robbie starting with a stock out of the box Trophy.
Robbie can be reached at 804-706-1847. He has spent a good amount of time in my boat and knows how to make them run!![]()
