Find a level surface (possibly you garage, driveway, ect). Check it with a level to make sure you are on level ground.

Level the boat with a level, to do this, adjust the jack up or down.

Then, level your motor with the trim, put a level on top of the fly wheel, ect. Make sure it is level.

Now measure from the bottom of the pad to the ground.

Then measure from the center of the nose cone or the center of the prop shaft.

    Check the difference.

This is how i've always done it with my Bumble Bee, Bullet, and Allison.

There may be another better, easier way to do it.

When you level the boat, place your level down the outter edge of the pad so the lip on the rear of the pad doesn't give you a false reading. As mentioned, you can level the engine flywheel or remove the prop and level the prop shaft. When measuring from the pad to the floor, measure from the very rear center of the pad on the pad lip itself to the floor. If the lip on your pad is stock from the factory and you're running a trolling motor and two people side by side, the prop shaft height should be about 1/4" below the pad lip. This measurement will vary with weight and mods. to the pad lip.

    Re: Prop shaft height (Props4u2)

I tend to check mine using a little bit more intense way than most, but I feel it's more precise, exact. I have poured my share of concrete , and I know how the level of it will vary, so I do not rely on the floor being perfect level..... I have a piece of aluminum angle, about 8 feet long, 3x3 in size. I'll set my boat/trailer up roughly level by using a 4 foot level on the front deck. I'll take that angle and lay in down the center of the pad, extending it out underneath the lower unit, even with the end of the prop shaft. I will use my 4 foor level to level the aluminum angle laying on the floor, shimming it till perfectly level. Once angle is level, I then use the tounge jack to level the pad, using the distance between the top of the angle to bottom of the pad in a few places to insure I have her perfectly level. I then use a torpedo level on the propshaft to get the shaft level using the trim button. Once the pad is level to the angle, it's easy to determine relation to prop shaft height. I then mark my jackplate for even, 1/2",1" etc..... My Hydl. plate is set to where my motor can not go lower than 1/4" below pad any way.

Ohh--- This method by myself roughly takes me 3-4 cold Corona's and I'll end up with 2-3 knots on my noggin climbing under and out when done by myself.........
