If you were wrongfully accused of cheating......

How would you handle it? This is 100% hypothetical and I haven't been accused. You usually have to win to be accused and I never win so.... I just wondered after reading the threads lately on cheating. I would let them put a neutral observer in the boat with me (likely a dnr agent) and offer to take a polygraph. I would want to clear my name so I didn't get the stink eye every time I tried to enter a tx. I've seen people accused of tournament cheating on 2 occasions. Both offered to do nothing to clear their name. That just made them look guilty to me. What would you do if the jealous mob came after you with accusations?

I'd allow a non fishing observer to ride with me if I didn't draw a partner, depends on the tournament format, to clear my name. If I won on a regular basis before and continued to win even with an observer I would then publicly quit the club after my name was cleared. Personally I wouldn't want to be around any folks that sought to accuse me of something out of pure jealously but that is just me!

First I'd make them show me the proof I was cheating. More than likely it is just someone who is jealous anyway. Next I would offer to take anyone to their liking and have them observe. Not much more than that that you can do. There is always going to be haters who can't fish as well as others who pull the cheat card out.

Calmly ask for written charges. Ask to meet the accuser and cooperate fully in the investigation. Ask for the proof and once I was found innocent of the charges I would get with my attorney and take their ass to court.

I would start with them providing a signed affidavit....if someone accuses another of cheating, but is unwilling to provide a signed affidavit, then it's hard to believe their claims.

An affidavit is a sworn statement or statements made under oath and under penalty of perjury.

I don't fish tournaments anymore, so I don't have to worry about what a jealous person would say at a tournament.
I myself have heard people accused of tournament cheating on 3 occasions. I knew one of them at the time, I was the first person to bring him to alot of these lakes in central Florida. All had won many of tournaments before hand, and were winning on a pretty regular basis. Can't say I know what they did after they were accused. I know two still won tournaments after, and became guides in central Florida. Can't say I recall hearing anything after that about one of them, can't even recall what his name was anymore.

All of the denying in the world is not going to change anyone's mind. You can't prove a negative. Since I am not a public figure, I would grab the first accuser and sue the hell out of them.

Sounds like what I would want to do, but more than likely I would blow my top!! I've never been formally accussed but several years ago I fished a club where we fished against the guy in the boat with us. I had always fished team events in the past but joined the club because I heard it was a good club. Most people in the club always fished with the same partner and I was no different. The guy fishing with me at the time was really more of a casual fisherman and was out there just to enjoy himself. I had done pretty good in a few events and even won once or twice I think and my co had only weighed in a few fish. The coment was made, "does *** ******* ever catch any fish?". Kind of had the hint of ,are you guys just putting your fish together to me. Bothered me for a while but we eventually moved on and I've done well with a couple of diferrent partners since then.

If I started winning regularly with much larger than normal bags of fish, I would almost expect someone to holler cheater. That just seems to be the norm now. I would have no problem doing what's necessary to prove my innocence. I have been accused of cheating in competition coon hunts. It's the same as bass fishing. I'd someone gets on a roll, they're cheating. They sent an observer with me twice and it was cleared up. I had no problem with that. I just don't see why some guys say screw them, they have no proof or I don't owe them any explanation. That may be true but why not just do what ever to get it cleared up?
