I got a matching set of medillon tach, speedo and various others on a deal. Even though my GPS can tell me more accurate speed I would like to hook up the speedo. What is the best to get for fishing and were can it be purchased?![]()

The pilot tube on my XB21 works good up to 85 mph or so, flips up after that... It's a plastic spring loaded unit, somebody makes a metal one that has 2 heavy duty springs on it, don't know the name, but it's out there....![]()
Found it!!!!http://www.gaffrigperformance....ry=33 It's the one for $219.00

if it pops up the tube from the foot to the piston must be clogged. the unit in question is a medallion. can be gots from reynolds racing. the faster it gets the harder it holds it if it works right

ProXTB,
What Alli SS said. The pitot tube assembly you need is a Medallion comp unit. Many of the Allison and Bullet dealers still have them in stock.
The Medallion comp pitot tube should not pop up at speed, it's designed with a piston assembly that fills with water and keeps the pitot down at speed. Sometimes the "O" ring, around the piston, needs to be replaced. This can be done, just take your time. A good Medallion comp speedometer/pitot can be very close to actual GPS speeds and responds a lot faster than a GPS can update.

Does the medallion comp use a hard plastic. long pitot tube with a clear tube coming out the top going to the mount that has a white spring loaded assembley?
If so I had one laying in my boat with a spare pitot tube. Doesn't look like it was ever used. With my gps speedo I guess it's just added weight in the boat.

I have "Beede" gauges in my boat, does it still use a Medallion pilot tube???![]()
yes. it is the one with a long plastic knife and a hose going to the base first. that charges the piston and keeps it from kicking up at hi speeds but not low speeds. springs don't do both. take off the blade and check it for obstructions then blow thru to the speedo. I have another base if yours won't work. they should be good for 100+![]()

Hey David,
Have you run your boat yet?
Lee
Hi Lee, yes I have. Its a gas to drive. Right now its sort of scary but getting better. I have had it up to 72 but that was with a 28p chopper of unknown origins and takes forever to plane. The 26 jumps on plane and tops out at 70 and that was with 3 people at 550lbs. I am not sure but I think I may need a low water pickup as the propshaft is still about 3+ inches below and hard to control for any length of time. I'm going to try a 27 trophy and see if I can do better, its running close to 6000rpm according to my tach, I might even need to try another lower unit w/1.78 gears. I thought this motor would cut back at 5800? So much to do, but I'll have a while to consider my options.
I have been keeping up with your fnr's and waiting to see how those go, a truly unique prop. Did you ever find a home for the Mariner?
Hope all is well in Va.
David

V6,
Your pitot assembly is a Medallion Comp. Allison transitioned to Beede when Medallion quit making speedometers--sometime in the mid-1990's. Allison still uses the Medallion Comp pitot's, I think.

You want this one PROXTB? It looks like a pretty stout unit. Twentyfive is about what a low cost tube runs for, although this one doesn't have the mounting screws or tubing to the speedo. It does have an extra pitot and looks like its easily changable. Let me know if you want it.

Hey David,
Sounds like all is going well, take your time & get use to the boat, it's better to learn to handle it @ 60 mph or so, then work your way up. You should purchase a set of water intake scoops so you can raise the engine up to about 1" below the pad and still have water psi, makes it handle much better, with it where you have it now you're having to fly the nose much higher than you should be which makes it hard to control. You will be fine running your set-up w/o a nose cone/ low water pick up, should top out in the upper 70's. You may be correct to need to go to a higher ratio but I don't believe there is such a thing for your gear case, you may have to go to a small dia. XR6 lower unit to go to 1.78.1 gears, that is a great unit for your boat since it is 4 1/4 dia. instead of 4 3/4 like yours now & will allow you to run into the mid 80's without blow out problems. The only problem is those units are not very durable, I have a few tricks that make them hold up much better if you decide to go that route.
A 28p F N R may do the trick for you, we should have more on the way soon.
Still have the 200, just took a 21 Bullet w/a 300X in on trade for a 21 Allison, going to take the 300 off & sell it with the 200, this will be a great deal for someone.
Call me if you need part #'s for water intakes or any advice,
Lee

David,
I am interested in buying your pitot tube assembly if ProXTB doesn't want it.
My email is texadaenergy@earthlink.net
I'm oldfashioned and still use an analog speedometer along with a GPS speedometer.
Thanks,
