E-TEC 200 hesitates during hard accelleration

The motor is a 2007 E-TEC 200 (60 degree) mounted on a Boston Whaler Outrage 22 Cuddy. The motor serial # is 05156970 and the model # is E200DPXSU. There are 26 hours on the motor per the I-Command gauges.

Accellerating from idle speeds to 3/4 or nearly full throttle (for example, getting up on plane leaving the harbor) the motor hesitates briefly before accellerating. You might call it a miss, but really it just bogs momentarily, then runs flawlessly otherwise. Yesterday while out fishing, the hesitation was enough to stall the engine a few times. It would restart easily, but the stalling really concerns me. Any thoughts on possible causes? The Racor filter was new when the motor was installed at the start of the summer, and when I drained the bowl, it appeared to be all gasoline. Also, fuel lines are new, as is the BRP brand hose and primer. I did just recieve a service notice, which I beleive is related to an update on the fuel map. Could this be related? The motor runs flawlessly otherwise, instant starts even after sitting for 3 weeks. If I accelerated at a more gradual pace, it did not hessitate, and ran well at all rpm ranges once up on step.

Re: E-TEC 200 hesitates during hard accelleration (andygere)

My 07 150 did exactly the same thing.I had the recommended map upgrade done and then the engine would not run at 2000-3000 rpm. It would only run slower or faster. Turned out there is a new throttle cam out which takes care of this. Once mine was installed it improved dramatically! Apparently there is a white dot on the new ones so have your dealer do both at the same time if yours needs it.
Seahorse was the one to advise me on this.

Like stated above it may have a missmachined throttle cam. I dont have the serial runs at this time. Im sure seahorse will post it by the time I find it.

Here is a pic of the two. The one on the left is the old. The right has the improved cam.

I haven't experienced the problem between 2000 and 3000 rpm that I've heard reported for a few 150's. I wasn't aware that there was a redesigned cam for the 200 as well. Will my BRP dealer know about this, or should I refer to a specific bulletin, etc? Also, the engine stalling right out of the hole (again, from idle speed in gear to hard accelleration) is my biggest concern. It hasn't stalled in the past, just hessitated, for less than a second, then revs up and planes the boat out quickly. Thanks for the quick replies thus far.

Got some first hand experience here. What is the motor suffix? E200DPXSU(?)

Back Pressure Tube/Readings Should Be Checked As Well As the Map Updates & the Throttle Cam update & the TPS Re-Cal. with 24% confirmation of tps on the monitor screen.

Is it a (R) or (F) suffix motor?

There is a map change For both? The Map should fix the (F) suffix if the other items are ok/done. I have seen the stall you are referring to & the map should fix the stall on transition from Strat. to Homog. modes.

There are other things to check but start here with your dealer. If the problem is still there afterwards then BRP tech. will advise your dealer were to go from there.

Re: E-TEC 200 hesitates during hard accelleration (AquaMarineNJ)

Thanks for the detailed info. I'm glad that it appears to be a fuel map issue and not something more serious. I will get it into the dealer for the update, cam, and TPS re-cal. Also, the only place I see the suffix in any of my documentation is on the sales agreement, where it says E200DPXSU/SD. Do I need to look on the motor nameplate to get the suffix, and what does it mean?

Yes, on the bracket is the suffix. Just means a production change. There are different maps in the (R) Vs. (F). There are some other differences as well but try the info posted before & reply with the suffix if you can.

Thanks again for the responses. I'll check the suffix when I get down to the boat this weekend. It shipped mid May '06, and all updates as of 6/9/06 were made when it was installed.
