    for Prop 4 u

    I have an RE4 Mazco in a 28 pitch.
I just traded boats from a 2003 to the 21 ProSport.
The prop has a couple of dings on the leading edge of 2 blades. When I had the 2003 it made for a great fishing prop when at lower elevation around 1300 ft at this lake. It had a great hole shot carried a load well and would cruise at 75 without turning a lot of rpm. Minus the dings- not sure when they happened..

last week we went to the same lake with the new boat. The prop ran out good on top end--- accelerated good, hole shot was marginal at best.
With the overhub exhaust it would let the mtr spool up to around 6 grand on take off but did not seem to bite as good as it did with the 2003 (before Getting Dinged) It would also spin a lot when turning or trying to run in ROUGH water. Which it did not do on the 03

I realy like the prop on big lakes because it drives easy and runs good speeds without high rpm's It also does well on fuel with those long runs.
I guess what my ? is do you think it might be to much prop for this boat WITH a LOAD. Or do you think it's more from getting damaged a little. And would It be worth reworking for this boat and maybe take a little pitch off.
Or is that not an option..

    Regards
    Mike Kelley

Re: for Prop 4 u (fishnfireman)

    Mike,
The dings in the prop aren't helping but the main cause for the ventilation is the weight of the xb-21, Darris or myself have not tried any over hub props on the 21 but I'm sure with some minor modifications I believe they will run well. A prop shop can not change the pitch in a stainless prop, most claim they can but I disagree, they can only change the cup, rake or roll in the prop which will usually change the rpm's but usually kills the speed when trying to gain rpm's. If you need to lower rpm's, this can be done by adding cup which will in most cases increase speed. To answer your question, I believe we can modify the prop slightly and produce a decent hole shot you would be happy with. We have found that the 21 runs pretty close to the 2003 motor for motor, so you should be all right with the 28. What motor do you have? Give Robbie a call @ 804-706-1847 to discuss mods to your prop, Robbie purchased the prop repair facility from us 6-yrs. ago but is still @ our location.

it is spinning up on take off because of the planing aid the 21's have

Phoenix 721 Pro XP, 250 Pro XS, aluminum gravel bar modified prop, paper sack tackle storage, ugly stik pro team, color c-lector pro team, TEMU Fishing Team

I don't believe this is the problem but I haven't had a chance to try an over hub so I can't say for sure. I see what you're saying, it could be wipeing the water out from in front of the prop, the prop can be modified for a good hole shot.

    Re: for Prop 4 u (Props4u2)

    Lee,

I have a 2000 model 225 Pro max. It was the original mtr on my 2003. I bought a thrashed 280 SS and rebuilt it 2 years ago. This mtr has been colecting dust in my shop. Sure glad now that no one wanted to buy it.

Thanks for your information. I will give them a call!

I need to call Darris, he was real interested to find out how the RE4 worked on the new hull. Only thing is I just have the one RE4 left that fits the small shaft and John mazer wants to much$ to rehub one.
I have found the overhub design works well on the Allison boats even with a fishing load. We fish lakes with a lot of difference in elevation.
From 1000 ft to 7000 ft. a lot of people-- Darris included have never had to deal with higher elevation.. He told me he had never ran the new hull above 2000 ft.

Anyway I have tried every prop i could over the years. And I just like the big ear chopper style prop. And when you get to the bigger pitch I like a 4 blade better as it drives easier and will have less steering torque than a 3 blade.
The Trophy and Todd Bucknells thru hub props are great. Todd had just built me 1 for the 280 right before i sold it but I let it go with the boat.
The ONLY thing I do not like about thru the hub style props is .....When running big pitchs on high reving mtrs like these that make there horsepower at high rpm.
When it gets hot or you go up in elevation.......anything to rob a little horse power.. They will bite so hard it will bog the mtr. Where as a chopper style will allow the mtr to spin up and get into it's horsepower range (around 5 to 6000 rpm) Then bite and launch like a drag car with a stall converter.

Robbie can make your torque converter lock up a little more so the boat will get on plane quicker with out so much ventilation. The 225 pm is a good motor for your boat but the 225x has a lot more bottom end to launch the heavier boat better. You may want to add one of Darris's fins on the lower unit also.
