    Why no spark ?

OK. this is an 89 evinrude, e200stlceb,2306072, it cranks over and I'm getting voltage to the coils(10-11 volts) but no spark. It ran fine when I last ran it, about a month ago. The powerpack and rectifier were replaced this past spring along with plugs , wires , etc. and it ran great. I put maybe 20 hrs. on it with no problem then haven't been able to go out. I went to start it today and got no spark to the plugs. I bypassed the kill switch and it didn't make a difference. Checked all wires and connections and grounds but couldn't find anything obvious. I don't think all 6 coils could go bad at once, so what should I look for? Thanks

sounds like you've pulled a plug and checked for fire, Check the shift interrupt switch under the shift linkage on the motor that also feeds the Kill switch circut.

How can I check it, short of cutting the wires and crossing them?

You can ohm it out, as with all of the KS circutry. Hope you've got a manual.
If you can get spark on one bank and not the other you can cross the leads from the timer base to the pack also and verify fire on that bank. If no fire then PP if it does then replace the timer base.

One major problem I have seen with these engines is low battery voltage. Engine will crank fine but wont fire. Charge up the battery real good and see if it fires. If it does you could have the beginings of bad low speed coils in the stator. Worth a shot anyway.

Yeah that crossed my mind also, I didn't know how much effect that would have. When I last had it out I spent a week at BullShoals. On the day I was leaving I came down to the dock to go and take the boat out, turned the key and nothing. I found the fuse on the motor had blown. I replaced it and it blew again. I unhooked my Guest pro 3-bank charger from the starting batt. and it didn't blow. started it up and loaded up and went home. WhenI got home I started it up and it ran on the hose. I had to have neck surgery and I've been having a bad time with RA, so I wasn't able to mess with it until the other day. I charged the starting batt. with a deep cycle charger and when I went to start it I had the no spark condition I posted about. I did check connections at the batt. and everywhere else I could and everything looked good as far as I can tell. I hope it's just a battery problem or simple thing like the shift interrupt switch. I have DR. appointments the next couple of days then have to go out of town. Ijust wanted to say thanks for all the help and I'll probably post next week or so hopefully saying I fixed it. Sorry this is so long, thanks again, Don
