What's the best concert you've ever been to?

Talking with some of the guys at work about it tonight, and got some interesting answers. I'd have to rank my top 3:

3) Pantera - unGODly loud! Dime came out and ripped right into "Cat Scratch Fever" and you could literally feel Vinny's double bass hitting you in the chest.

2) George Thorogood - I went to the show just to see Marshall Tucker Band open, and left talking with my dad, and we both said it was one of the best shows we've ever seen. That guy puts on a show, and really interacts with the crowd. I'd drive 6 hours to see him again if I got the chance.

1) Skynyrd - I've seen them perform over a dozen times live, but one show really stood out to me. After Hughie Thomasson passed away they did a show 3 days later in NH, and I sat 3rd row. Ricky Medlocke played the entire Freebird solo by himself, and half way through I looked up and he had tears running down his face.

Phish - I've seen quite a few, and even a not so great phish so, is way better than any other concert I have seen.

I've been to two concerts at "The Gorge at George" (Washington). Amazing site, in a notch in the cliff high over the Columbia River near Vantage, WA. At sunset, if you sit on the south side, you can see about 10 miles up river, loaded with Smallies. You can also launch your boat at Vantage and beach or anchor below the cliffs, and hear the concert for free.

I would have liked to have seen Chuck Berry or George Thorogood there, but actually saw Bob Dylan and Sting. Wasn't a fan of either, but still had a good time and enjoyed the music enough to buy a CD of both artists.

Metallica on the Justice For All tour. Probably tied with Slayer when I saw them on the South of Heaven Tour. Also really loved seeing Merle Haggard at Billy Bobs a few years ago. On a smaller level anytime I get a chance to see Barntley Gilbert, whiskey Myers, Chris Knight or Cross Canadian Ragweed its a great show.

My wife and I saw the Eagles at the Hollywood Bowl last year. One of the best concerts I've ever been too. See Jimmy Buffett every year or two and never walked out of one his disapointed.

Number 1 - Dream Theater, Queensryche, and Fates Warning in Tampa 2004...a progressive metal fans dream show.

2 - Van Halen...1984 tour in Atlanta. The crowd of 20k erupted when VH busted into the first song. The roar was so loud you couldn't even tell what song they were playing for the first minute...and VH slayed that night. Never witnessed anything like that since.

3 - Mother's Finest...1979. Baby Jean & gang literally blew up the city auditorium in my hometown GA. Place was packed, standing room only. MF were tight with great harmonies.

1) Skynrd the year of the crash in Springfield, Mass. They opened for Johnny and Edgar Winters. The Winters Boys were the better show that night.

2) Aerosmith in 75 at Madison Square Garden. Nugent was the opening act. I fell asleep during Stranglehold. (long ride to the show)

3)Queen in Springfield, Mass. around 78. Queen in New Haven Ct with Billy Squire as the opening act around 81.

4)Redneck Woman with Big and Rich in 2008

5)Thourogood in New Haven Ct with Johnny Winters as the opening act in 83 I think.

My best and my worst concert happened on the same night. The best show Ive ever seen was KISS when they and Aerosmith toured together. They sounded the best Ive heard them in a long time, Ive seen them probably 5-6 times.

My worst was Aerosmith. They didnt sound good, Steven Tyler forgot alot of lyrics even with teleprompters, they all stood around like they were bored of playing the songs and it was the Honkin on Bobo cover album tour, I went to see Aerosmith play Walk This Way, not someone else's song. Honestly I would have been happy leaving half way through Aerosmith's set and wouldnt have been unhappy. They had been on my bucket list of bands to see and Ill say, I lost some respect for them that night.
