    Leaking fuel pump UPDATED

I just went out and pumped up my fuel bulb to get ready to hit the lake. Fuel started coming out from under the motor and I traced it to the fuel pump. It's a small mist coming out of the "L" shaped tube on top of the pump. The pump itself doesn't seem loose. Can the fitting be replaced or am I looking at a new pump? Thanks for the help.

IF you have the original pump, the fitting cannot be repaired.

If it is a replacement pump, one that has the L shaped fitting held in place by a metal oval bracket and 2 small Torx screws, then parts and o-rings are available to fix it.

Looks like it's the original. How much am I looking at for the part? Thanks

About $290.00. Before you make that call, pull the outbound fuel line and spend the cheap $$$ and replace the line to your fuel tree add a 1/2" to the length, use a ratchet clamp to secure. Test it all you are out is $2.00 if it works.

Uh oh, CM, the motor in question is a 60 degree block which uses a special o-ringed fitting into the vapor separator from the top of the "VRO" pump, not a "fuel tree" and hose system like the crossflows.

Sorry, man, had to do it to ya!

    Re: Leaking fuel pump (ChampioNman)

OK, I finally got time to check out the pump again. I took it off and did not see any cracks or anything in the fitting. I decided to replace the two O rings on the fitting and put the pump back on. When I pump the bulb up really hard, I get a very small drip. I have to pump it up harder than I need to, to get the drip(keep pumping the bulb after it is hard). Motor starts and runs great with no leaks and no loss of power. I let the boat sit a while and still no leaks. Is this small drip acceptable? It doesn't do it if I pump the bulb the normal amount.

Think you've fixed the problem. Bulb firm is good, over pumping the bulb not good.
If your talking vice grips hard. . You should be OK.
