    johnson/evinrude trolling motor question

I have a friend that has a Johnson/evinrude foot controlled trolling motor. he has a problem he needs to fix. I believe the tension cable is about shot. when he pushes the button to go it looks like its gonna fly off and up under his boat. the cable is barely holding on and only has 2 strands left before it breaks. he has some extra trolling motors for parts but the ones he has are smaller lb thrust ones and the cables on those wont work. he says that the one he has is the biggest one ever made so its like a 80lb thrust or so. he also has a huge prop on it he is looking for one of those too. it looks like a weed cutter type prop if that helps. if anyone can help me out or point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. you can post here or pm me. thanks

Post of the Electrical/Wiring/Trolling Motor Forum a little further down the main page.

That metal cable has to have tension. A few of my strands broke last year and the same thing was happening. Those cables can still be bought online. The cable comes in 3 different sizes (36", 42" ,48") so you have to know how long of one you need. They are not one size fits all as I said before cause it needs to have tension on the wheel. You'll be able to search around on this site for parts that are still available and fairly cheap. Very easy to replace.

Get the model # from the foot peddle and go to iboats.com. You should be able to find it there.

In the box that says evinrude. Expand the drop down menu to electric and hit enter. Then find the year of the trolling motor and open that up. Click on 24V or 12V. Then find the model # and click on that. Your part will come under the bow arm and deck bracket group. Expand that page and see your part # will be 25. You just have to figure out the length of cable. I had the 42" shaft and it took the 42" cable length.
