I would be doing alot of bream fishing with rubber worms then![]()
Its quite a sore topic really. A lot of bass anglers are for a catch and release only season during the spawning months. Our spring is to hit or miss to have set openers every year. Its been in the 70's the las week. lakes are unfreezing a month ahead of normal. At this rate the bass will spawn in a month and come june first it will be a wasted month of fishing where no fish were spawning in may. Some years it stays very cold or further north the fish don't even spawn until june after season is open. So basically, in warmer springs the fish are protected and fishing time is wasted. In colder springs the fish can still be prespawn when the season opens so no good was done by having a closed season.

What are these rubber worms you speak of. Crappie minnies and wax worms here!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pan fish are legal and nothing says you can't throw a shad-rap for carppie and if a bass choses to hit it as long as you put it back in the lake "no foul"
There ARE designated spawning areas that are closed to any type of fishing.
Ya. There is a lot of open water. Only thing you can fish for from mid february to mid may is panfish and roughfish. then mid may walleye and pike open. end of may or early june bass opens. then usually second weak of june muskie opens. Do you know how much it suck fishing largemouth in 4 feet of water and see a 50+ muskie swim by you and you can't legally throw at it. But I guess its the trade off to get some of the awesome fisheries we have up here.
The mississippi river is open water too and you can fish it for bass or anything else for that matter. First tournament is in just a few weeks.
