$500 bucks for a torpedo?WOW!! If you find out the answer let me know.![]()
All it takes is one snag....and I'm getting out the scuba gear and going in after that one!
Its a common scam on ebay ...A person gets his item bid up by himself or friends and then post others that will sell for more than they are worth. Also some people do it as jokes , I saw a Walmart bag sell for 1.3 million one day on ebay.
Must be pretty rare... 22 bids as well. It's nice to see the item sell foor more than the shipping charges for once though.![]()

Making good people helpless has never made bad people harmless.
Staring price was 99 cents, first bid was $2.99!![]()
because 2 people wanted it real bad![]()

Kinda like a $15 spinnerbait? makes no sense
The only thing that I could see is that it was Magnum torpedo. I have never seen one in person. I have torpedo's and tiny torpedo's. That one was a lot bigger than any that I have ever seen.

Some times you get a Japanese bidding war for Heddon plastics. Years ago I saw a Fenwick Lunker stick sell for 1300 dollars. I inquired of the seller and he explained the bidding war scenario. I had 2 just like it. I listed one immediately and sold mine for 350 to a Japanese bidder.
In the old days before the newer restrictions with hidden identities if I saw a bidding war and I had the same high end item I would contact the losing bidder. Then I would try to sell my lure off Ebay for cash. I would offer the lure at his highest bid or just under the winning bid. Another trick I used when I had the same item was to list the item with a high reserve that was impossible to meet. Then after the auction closed I would do a second chance cash offer off of Ebay to the highest bidder. Ebay wised up eventually to these practices because a lot of deals were being done after the auctions closed. They put an end to second chance offerings and stiffened the penalties for them. The good old days of Ebay.
Another possible ploy is to get a high price, not to sell, but to substantiate a high value for insurance reasons. Possibly to show value of a collection, or to "prove" value of stuff lost to theft, fire, flood or tornado.![]()
Don't bother me, I'm screwing for virginity.
I killed a 12-pack just to watch it die.
The combination of the size, with it being a magnum torpedo, along with the color just made it a bit rare. I have only had a handfull of the old magnum torpedos and though they have all sold for good money on Flea Bay they came nowhere close to that price. Overseas buyers are goofy when they spend their money, I used to sell the original P70 Pop-r's for between a $100.00 - $150.00 and they all went to Japan buyers.
