How easy is it to take completely off?

I take my tailgate off quite often - like when spreading mulch and stuff........

The whole tailgate down saves gas is not true, Trucks are designed to obtain their best mileage with the gate up, as demonstrated on Mythbusters.

I checked out the website. I'm a little concerned that you have to bypass the truck latches, and wonder how much of a load that gizmo can safely secure. I had a load of fertilizer shift rearward and slam into the tailgate. Not sure I'd trust that ram arm to have held that inside the truck. Would look really cool on a show truck however

If it still utilized the latches I would like it. That little actuator looks a good bit weaker than the factory latches.

That would be true. No need to lower the tailgate to back up either...use the mirrors.

I would never tow with the tailgate down. First, the MPG's go down. Most importantly though, first corner the winch for the boat would be taken out by the tailgate.

Wouldn't work on my truck anyways as my tailgate goes both ways, up/down and side to side.

It's a Tundra....I bet you could pick up that one bag of much and set it in the bed with the gate on.

it's only wrong if you hit something, over the shoulder or using the mirrors

Re: Ford Magic Tailgate (bob o)

I cant see a use for that feature. Its much faster to let gravity drop it and to slam it shut. If i remember right, my f150 even has some kind of lift assist to make it easy to lift. I always drop my tailgate when I go get my trailer to take out and have never had a problem with it hitting the trailer, even on sharp turns . Mainly do it so I can see the bunks on the trailer to get proper depth, also have a better view of the empty trailer when backing out of a parking space in a crowded lot.. I also step from the front of the boat to the tailgate, then sit on the tailgate to snug the winch strap.
