I am looking at a used 520 w/ a 225 Rude Ram, I'm pretty much a Merc guy and am looking for info/red flags on this engine. It has very low hours and has had very little use the last 2 yrs due to owners health. The boat is out of state and I won't be able to check it out personally until 3/5, also I am planning to request a printout from the engine computer to verify hrs. and check rpm and fault code history. Any input or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

The 01 Rudes were good motors, get the serial number and I can check the warranty history to see whats been done to it.
I've got that same motor, been a pretty good motor, had a couple things under the warranty. Starter motor had a crack and the stator went bad, when I first got it one of the injector bolts broke and it went into slow mode. naturally leaking gas everywhere. Bomb had a bolt upgrade kit for it that was never put in. Got that resolved, and it has been trouble free. A very strong motor, lots of torque.
