    My 1st import (sort of)

Decided it was time to retire the 98 Lumina LTZ at 265,500 miles and get the wife another car. Honda had 0.9% financing plus a good bit off the sticker so I talked her into a brand new, made in the USA (Ohio) Accord EXL. I'm very impressed with it. At 50 yrs old, this is my first time owning a foriegn make. I hope I can get many miles from it like we did the Chevy.

My mom and dad had a civic in the late 80's/early 90's and got over 200k on it. Still running great when they traded it in on an Accord in the mid 90's. That Accord got well over 200k and was running great when they traded that in for another. Honda makes a quality product with predominantly American labor. It's a good choice and you will get many years out of that baby. Congrats.

My first thought. Neighbors had one that looked like crap and ran like crap at 150K.

atleast it wasn't an Older Z34......those engine's were a PITA to work on and if someone didn't do the T-belt right you really screwed things up.

    Re: My 1st import (R.D.)

Pretty sure my sons 1999 3.4 has a timing chain. That's about the only thing left to be changed at 150,000 miles. It's a throw away car at this point. The graduation invites are in, says he is done with college in May and a little truck is his first purchase after a new job. Sadly I doubt he will ever give another American product a chance.

Congrats on the Accord, good cars that hold their value well.

    Re: My 1st import (R.D.)

Haha, yeah, I've heard that from several about the Lumina. It has the 3.8 in it, and believe it or not, that motor is still strong, no rattles, knocks, does not smoke, (always used Mobile 1) and will light the tires up if you get on it too hard from a dead stop. Never touched the tranny either. It did make a weird noise from a 3rd to second downshift. The rest of the car.....radiator started to leak, molding coming off, lights going out in the dash, needed struts, bearing was going out in the left front, front rotors need replacing, and in the last 6 months replaced the fuel pump and the starter. It had been a good one...but it was time.

Can't wait till the Accord is broke in so I can see what it will do from a dead stop.

Man, if you can get 265K out of a Lumina, you'll get 500K out of the Honda.

Did you get the 4 cyl or the 6? My wife has the same car ('08) with the V6. 268-hp...that car RIPS! There's not many family sedans that will drive and handle like that thing. Still gets close to 30 mpg on the highway, too. I love driving that car, especially when I'm alone and I don't have to hear about it when I bury the pedal.

    Re: My 1st import (rednecktech)

Last weekend my son's GF bought a new 2012 Civic for less then $17K, great cars and 39MPG is awesome. If my Acura TL ever quits running (175K and runs like a top) I'd like to get a new Accord, love the new body style on the Accords.

It's the V6. I'm seeing what you mean. It does handle great...haven't romped on it much yet but I can tell it's got some power.

    Re: My 1st import (rednecktech)

I am on my 5th honda......all have been great, better than that fantastic. The current 09 accord exl is a dudd. it as 34k on it and I have had the rac and pinion replaced, the stearing column, it rattles like a bill lewis, everything from the dash to the speakers.. A new Mulit valve syinoid in the engine was replaced...needed new back brakes at 20K (Honda knows they made the brakes too small) so the paid for the new pads, only once so new back brakes every 20K

Don't mean to be a bummer, but I am kinda pissed about the quality of this car.... I see a new fusion in my future.........
Good luck with your new purchase.

Great cars. Had an accord in High school and college. Wife had a pilot for 8 years and only problem was a door lock actuator.
