Nah, I just had to educate CM on these. Let's see if he can retain anything besides water!

As I told you Krusty it has been a long time since I worked on one of these.
But to answer your?
On the battery powered Motorola, later Delta, ignitions, the power packs were protected from voltage spikes by the clipper switch. These were the points type CD electronics.
The '69 115 had a similar looking "box" as the clipper but it was a safety switch to make sure the ignition pack would not fire up if someone turned the flywheel by had with the key on. It sensed alternator AC voltage, then it allowed the 12V from the key switch to reach the pack and start the motor.
Tada! I've purged the H20![]()
Man, you mean the Really Old motors would start if you turned the flywheel by hand?![]()

You can remove it but there woudl be no protection from voltage fluctuations

'69 115's...sigh...that was a money maker.
If the ignition safety circuit went out, they could actually fire up by simply turning the key on. It would occasionally throw a spark at KO and pop off a cylinder. Often they'd try to start backwards, but the anti-reverse spring would stop that...that is if it was still there and hadn't worn away to dust.
Prestolite, anti reverse spring, ignition safety circuit, hydro-electric shift and monkey balls. Dem were da days.![]()
