Some lakes, yes.
Bob, I ordered small stainless coast lock swivels from Barlow's to use. Didn't think about split rings.

I used #5 Crane swivels. I didn't put any split rings on the ones I make.
I haven't purchased an A-rig yet but think about this a moment.
Most of the baits used on an A-rig won't twist your line. They swim upright, and again really don't twist your line.
I think the presentation would look much better WITHOUT the snap/swivels entirely. Attach your heads with snap rings.
HOWEVER the entire rig could twist your line, especially on the cast. So, I think I would attach a swivel with one welded ring, and one split ring to the A-rig itself. Then tie your line to that swivel.
This will reduce the costs a BUNCH too, if you buy the umbrella rigs that don't have the snap/swivels on them already
So for me, I'm leaving out the snap swivels all together.
Thanks guys. I think I'll go the #5 cranes as well. With no split ring..Are you guys using a swivel at the head where you tie your line? Shouldn't need it, I wouldn't think

Why would you need a swivel at the lures but not at the line? See my post above.
Here's my attempt.
still need to put the finishing touches on.

Above are the ones i make for myself.Im using snaps from tackel warehouse.Barlows was back ordered on my order for over a mo.on snaps.
#7's and they are 61pd test. I also use #10's on some as well for bass and crappie's. they are 31 pd test. I tie my main line with a No#5 snap. If anything gives way its usually the hook bend out and i just re-straighten back out. If the no#7 snaps ever break I can replace as well.I carry extra's.Main line is 80# braid.above is about $5.50 for me to make.![]()
Looks good. Now i'm gonna hijack with a question. How did you close the wire around the snap swivel? I didn't like the possibility of the swivel slipping out like on a split ring when I bent the wire into a loop.
It takes a little practice but you get used to it.I use round nose needle nose pliers.Got them at Wal-Mart.$7.00 Put wire in about half way on pliers with about a 1/4" to 1/2" of wire showing up above. Now turn all the way one good swist. After you now have a big round loop with tag end past main wire hanging past about now 1/4".Put snap on and snap on a a small to med.,pair of vise grips on the round end.Now using a good sized pair or larger needle nose pliers turn the tag end one really good swist.your now done.![]()
