    Anyone have an Xterra?

Pros/Cons of these? I am looking at a 2000 model with 117,000 miles on it, V6, 4x4, loaded, towing package (which can't be much for this small of a vehicle).

Had one. If it has the 4.0 it'll pull a 19' boat fine. Stopping can be scary. They are pretty much a Nissan hardtop Jeep. Noisy, rough riding, love gas reliable go anywhere type vehicles.

The inside plastic scratched up real easy.

Ist the LR now this. I'd be looking for a Tahoe if you want F/S SUV or an AWD 4-Runner if you want the mid size. Even the Pathfinder is more refined than the Xterra. Guess it depends on what you expect out of it.

The only Con I can think of on that model was the exhaust manifold/cat convertor had a tendency crack causing an exhaust leak. I think on the right side. Other than that, pretty solid truck. I don't know how it would tow though. You may need some trailer brakes, they are not very heavy vehicles.

I currently have a 2000 with the v6 (3.3l) They're great trucks, but as was mentioned they do crack the rt exhaust manifold occasionally. It's really not a big project if you're mechanically inclined.

I would suggest you check to see whether or not the timing belt has been replaced. It's about a $600 job if you have to pay to have it done, or about $300 in parts if you do it yourself. Nissan recommends you replace the timing belt every 105k I think. Not something I would skip doing. The 3.3 is an interference engine, if you break the timing belt or lose a tooth or two, the pistons WILL hit the valves and bend them.

I've got a loaded 2000 Pathfinder 4x4, same drivetrain and almost same body as an Xterra. Engine is underpowered in my opinion but i went to it from a v8 chevy... Mine has 158k miles on it and other than basic maintenance and a new distributor, it's running like new.

Thanks for the responses guys. I didn't see at first but it is 5 speed and my wife can't drive one. I have tried to teach her and it was about the biggest fight we have ever been in

John, I am just wanting something a little different is all. I am NOT buying a GM vehicle. I actually think I just found an Explorer. I am going to look at it tomorrow. It is an 03 with 93,000 miles in EXCELLENT shape.
