    Terrible oil consumption

    2003 150 Johnson
    Model # J150GLSTA

Engine is smoking real bad at idle conditions! I assume it is using the sane at others but its hard to tell when cruising. Used approx 40 gal and fuel and almost 4 gal of Oil!!!! over the last few outings.

I just took it to my local shop, and he found no air leaks in the oil lines or fuel lines.

Compression is good and, it still runs suprisingly good. It just smokes like heck.

    What can I check next?

    Re: Terrible oil consumption (Stratos190fs)

When the OMS on my 200 went bad, it pumped more and more oil as it deteriorated. By the time I had it fixed, I looked like a blue comet coming down the lake. I think I was running about 5:1.

Use lubricant on the o-rings and , make sure all connections are tight. Run on a premix for at least the first tank of fuel to make sure the pump is working. The new pump will use approx. 1 gal of oil per 50 gal of fuel. This is all relative to speed and load.

Be sure you are running on 50:1 but leave the oil hose off until the NO OIL alarm comes on so you know the warning system and the horn are operational. Bleed the oil hose into a jar and hold the primer ball vertical, then slip the hose onto the fitting, do not squeeze any more. Keep running the motor to make sure it self primes and that the oil warning quits when it senses oil back into the pump. Use the correct clamp on the oil lines, #322654 and get rid of any splices, sight tubes, etc. to minimze air leaks.

    Re: Terrible oil consumption (SEAHORSE)

Better than my situation: I just picked this engine up and it used 1 gal over about 80 gal fuel, (~3 tanks) and just smeared 2 cyls....they're boring them today. E150GLEOM '95 intruder. I was running mix for the first tank but I guess over the top-ups it became diluted. No alarms or anything

    Sure did run wekk though.
