    1991 EVINRUDE 150 HELP PLEASE

    My 1991 evinrude 150 had oil and fuel lines to VRO leaking I replaced them with omc hoses and clamps,also primer bulb. A week later I still noticed a fuel leak ,traced it to the VRO, put new vro pump on. Engine starts and runs fine , but after you run it stop and fish it acts like it bogs down and dies when you take off. Primer bulb seems soft also. I don't see any more fuel leaks. I have to pump the throttle to get it running on plane but once its up and running it runs great. The problems seems to be after running and let sit for a while. Any ideas?

    Your engine has "heat soak" problem, erroneously called vapor lock. Let the motor run for a few minutes before taking off to cool down the intake manifolds, carb bodies, and fuel system.

    Ask your dealer to call tech support to have them fax a service letter for that problem so he can recalibrate your carbs. You also may have an acceleration problem when powering the boat onto the trailer, this letter will also correct that.

    What caused this to start happening now, I have never had a problem in the past. I also put on a new water filter not OMC but a tempro brand .

    Make sure there are no airleaks in the filter sealing or in the threaded connections. Today's fuels will make motors more prone to runnabiltiy problems, especially in the summer heat.

    Will the heat soak make the primer bulb go soft. Could I have gotten a bad bulb ?Although yesterdy even after I pumped bulb it was hard to get going with out it dieing. I finnally had to slowly pump the throttle to get it to run and not die( boat idles fine) just when you take off. I dont know if motor has ever had carbs rebuilt could it be time ? Thanks

    I just pulled the air box cover off, there seems to be a lot of gas oil mix dripping out of carbs. Also I am runnig double oil due to changing oil line and VRO.

    Any chance that these instructions (about the heat soak problem) are available to the general public. I would like to see that letter.

    My 88 evinrude 150 is doing the same thing I would like to see that letter and I dont have a dealer. footy

    You don't have the same motor Foote,
    He has a 60* you have a 90* cross-flow. The letter doesn"t apply to your motor.
