How cheap can a manufactuer get?

I have a (what I thought) decent pair of stainless steel scissors in the kitchen, but it stopped working. I popped the plastic cover off of the screw and the screw was rusted up. Seriously how much money do you save by using a tiny steel screw and lockwasher instead of stainless steel? I'm even cheaper though, I'm going to get a stainless screw and replace it instead of buying a new pair of scissors.

The stainless steel can openers have the same problem. They are riveted with steel rivets instead of SS. If you wash them too many times the rivets rusty out.

You should buy the Ranger brand of scissors. They cost 499.00 dollars but they are made with the best quality materials. After all, you get what you pay for.

Where it's made has nothing to do with it. The company of the product itself are the ones to blame. They decided to produce them that way.

Screws that rusted could have possibly been stainless. Despite what most people think, some grades of stainless will rust. Particularly the cheaper "400 Series" which has less Chromium than the "300 Series" and also more more Carbon in it.
